ok i am new to the local board i am always on IF but i am in the process of switching REs and was wondering where you all go and whats your experience with them? i have pcos and have been ttc since 09/2006. we went to drs here and now i am hoping to have luck at fertility institute or oschner.. your thoughts
Re: help
I go to the Fertility Institute which is affiliated with Tulane Lakeside Hospital, but they also have offices in Baton Rouge and on the north shore. There are a number of doctors in the practice so the experience would depend on who you saw. I see Dr. Dunnaway and have been really happy with him and the level of care his staff gives. My email address is on my blog. Feel free to email me with questions.
My OBGYN is at Oschner, but I choose the fertility institute instead. Oschner recently shut down their IVF clinic, so in my opinion it doesn't make sense to go there for treatment b/c if you end up needing IVF you're going to have to switch Drs again.

thanks so much i have been reading over the institues website and i think thats where i am going to go.
what can i expect?
i was at an re in lafayette and i didnt like him, i never saw him but the 1st visit and all he did was come in introduce himself and thats it after that it was his nurse and the peeps who did hsg and us and bw. no ok here is what we are gonna do and this is what will happen and then these are the next steps and thats what i want..
So, on our 1st appt they had us fill out paper work ahead of time. I also had all my OBGYN records faxed over ahead of time. I had done a HSG, post-colotial and BW to confirm O with my OBGYN, so he wanted to see that info. We also had DH's S/A faxed over as well. When we got there, we were brought back into a office and the nurse went over the paper work we had brought in and the records that had been sent over. Then the Dr. came in and we went over everything with him (probably 20 mins). He decided the best course of action was a medicated IUI since we were unexplained. I was on CD 3 so he said we could start treatment that cycle, so after we were done the consultation part, we went and did an U/S. They found a cyst so we didn't end up cycling that cycle, but it was a good 1st appointment.
I try to have most of my appointments in the early morning, so I don't see Dr. Dunaway often (since he's driving in from BR he's usually not in the office until 9am). But the U/S techs do my U/S and I get my blood drawn during the monitoring phase, and then he looks at everything when he gets in and the nurse calls me that afternoon with instructions. It works out well b/c I don't have to take too much time off of work. He did however personally do my IUI and I just had a lap which he performed himself.
I've been really happy with him, and the clinic.

It really depends on how many times you have to go in on the monitoring phase. My last IUI I went in for monitoring on CD13, and CD15 and then the IUI was CD17, so it was 3 appointments for 1 cycle. Sometimes they have you come in for CD3 monitoring and BW as well, but I had already done that so i didn't have to. Overall the # of times you have to go depends on how your folicles grow on the meds, I could have been ok on CD13 or needed to come back on CD16/17/18. It all depends on how your body is reacting.
Also if you do an IUI your husband will have to come with you that day as well because the sample needs to be fresh and because of the long drive btw home and the clinic he'll have to give his onsite.
