Trying to Get Pregnant

One step forward, two steps back (Long)

So, Sunday on my way to a baby shower I got in a wreck.  I didn't hit anybody but ran into a ditch trying to avoid being hit by a guy that crossed over into my lane.  (I thought it was just grass and I would go right through it).

I don't know if my car is totalled or not.  It looks pretty bad to me but DH said he thinks it can be fixed.  Yesterday we (my mom was with me) went to the Doctor to get checked out.  She has a hairline fracture on her breast plate from the seat belt and I'm mostly just bruised and sore.

Thankfully everyone is okay but I'm just so aggravated with insurance.  I've only been in one other wreck which also wasn't my fault.  The lady I got in my first wreck with was very on top of her job and had called her ins. company before I ever did and I had a rental car that day and my other car was totalled and payed off the next week.  So, I just expected everything would go just as smooth.

Wrong!  They guy who caused the wreck has yet to call his insurance co. and will not answer the phone when they call him.  So, until they have his side of the story and do their investigation an adjustor will not go to assess the damage of my car and I cannot get a rental.  So now I am out a car and I cannot go back to work until I have one.

It looks like we will have to wait the 7-10 days to get the police report before anything will get done because this douchebag won't do his part.  It's just so frustrating that I didn't do anything wrong and I'm the one out everything and this a**hole got to leave right from the scene and go about his merry way!

  • Well first of all, I'm glad that no one was seriously hurt!

However, I'm really sorry about the insurance. What a pain. I hope you can get it resolved quickly and to your satisfaction.

Oh my!  I am glad everyone is ok.  Sorry about the a$$wipe.  I had the same problem last year, but the a$$wipe was my boss, so I knew how to find him.  (Yes you read that right, my boss and I were in a car accident.  He decided to talk on the phone and not pay attention... and hit me).

OMG I could not imagine having to go through this with someone I saw everyday!

  • I'm glad you are all ok!  Do you have rental coverage under your policy?  You could get a rental through your policy and once the guy talks to his company and they determinet that it was his fault, his company should reimburse yours.

Thanks.  Yes we do have rental coverage with our insurance and that looks like it may be my best bet at this point.  I just wanted to avoid going through my insurance at all because my sister works in insurance and that's what she advised.

And then on top of it they only want to give me $22 a day for a car.  I can't even get a Chevrolet Aveo for $22 a day!

  • can't you start the process with your insurance - and let your insurance duke it out with idiot-boy and his insurance?   That way you could at least get started with a rental.

get the rental - same level of car that you were already driving, even if it's more than your insurance pays.  Pay the balance OOP.   Once he is determined "at fault", his insurance company should reimburse you the difference.   I've been there.     I just make a point of "Hey, my car was X.  I paid for that - I don't want to be driving around in a smaller/lesser/crappier car for something that was NOT my fault"   (especially, if you are still making monthly payments on yours.)

Yeah, I am going to call them today.  The reason I didn't want to is because my sister said that if they have to pay anything out in an accident that I'm going to be put at fault but he got the ticket and in his statement to the cops he said it was his fault and he wasn't paying attention.  But, as long as my insurance company gets reimbursed and our premium doesn't go up then I'm okay with going through them as long as it gets something going.

This, you will have to pay your deductable to get all this started, but your company will go after his for subrogation to get your money back...

I wouldn't wait if I was you! GL

I was in an accident that totaled my brand-new (only 8 months old!) car. The other driver was 100% at fault and they did not have insurance. My insurance had to pay to buy me a new car but since I was not at fault at all, my insurance premiums never went up.

  • Thanks everyone for your advice.  I went ahead and gave my insurance company a call.  Now I am just waiting for their adjustor to call me back.
  • Glad you're okay. Sorry about all the craziness. Hopefully you'll be able to get back to work soon.
