Twins: How many swings?

I am in the midst of just compiling a list of things I will need to register for in the next few weeks. It's obvious to me the things I'll need two of, but I wasn't sure about a swing. Did you find that you needed two swings or do you think one does the job?

Thanks!

  • So far I have 1 swing and 1 bouncy. It's been working fine for us so far, though if I had to have 2 of sometihng, 2 bouncies would be better.

Technically I do have 2 of those, but my older DS's bouncy seat converted into a toddler chair. He is suddenly NOT willing to give it up. LOL. I figure once he gets over wanting to hang on to it, I can use it for one of the twins. For now, one in the swing and one in the bouncy is working out fine.

  • I have one from my DD and plan on getting another one.  She loved her swing and I loved it too ;o)

That is definately a must buy for me.

  • we've gotten by with one travel swing, and one bouncer.  but we didn't really nap the girls in either as a habit.  occasionally we used the swing to help one get drowsy while rocking the other.  we have a small house, so i've tried to get by with as little as possible.

  • we have one full size and one travel swing...for me we needed 2!
  • We had two swings but neither of my girls loved them.  In the beginning they hated it.  Then they would be ok in it and then they just got too big for it.

  • We have 2 swings and at times need both, but we normally get away with 1 (which is good because 1 is electric and 1 runs on batteries).  My kids don't seem very happy in swings or bouncers (or anything else besides someones arms).
  • Thanks everyone. I think maybe I'll just register for one and if it looks like I need two then we'll pick up another.
  • IMO, yes, you will need two. But it's really impossible to say with 100% certainty that both will like them. Maybe start with one, and then get another one if they do turn out to both like them.

  • we rotate them between the swing and the bouncy. when M takes his turn in the bouncy he just lays there looking longingly at the swing. poor guy. J loves the swing too so they just have to take turns. although i agree w pp buy one and see how it goes, if you need another one, then you'll get another one.
  • i registered for 2 bouncy seats but only one swing.. i figure if they both love it, i can always get another.
  • We have 2 and I can say it is a lifesaver for me during the day as I am here alone with them during the week while dh is at work.  I had heard to just register for 1 in case they dont like it but I lucked out and received 2 as gifts.

Oh and I recommend the Fisher price papasan swing.  I have the little lamb and the starlight one.  GL!

  • I would definitely wait and see what your babies like before registering for or buying two of anything big like that.

we registered for a small travel swing because it was nice and compact and neutral in color and we didn't want two huge swings in our place.  neither of our babies EVER liked that thing, they would only stay in it for about 5 minutes.

a friend of ours gave us a hand me down fisher price aquarium cradle swing and both babies LOVED it.  we ended up getting another fp cradle swing because it was so useful, but we couldn't find the aquarium one so we got the rainforest one and they liked it ok but not as much as the first.  They really preferred the side to side swinging to the regular front/back swinging

  • We had 2 but one ended up in the closet very quickly.  I'd start with 1+bouncer.  Swings take up a lot of room so if its not necassary...

  • We have been given 2 really nice hand me downs.

  • We've been given 1 swing as a hand-me-down, and are going to wait until the girls arrive before we invest in a second. If they both take to the swing, it will be money well spent, but we'll wait and only buy it if it looks like both will be frequently used.

  • if you have the space- 2 is nice, but we have a tiny house- so we only had one... early on they fit in it together- then later they just took turns.  Gibby liked it a lot more than Gray anyway - so Gray was hardly ever in the swing.

Griffin hated the swing - you could have one baby that hates it- so i'd start with one.

  • We used two, but I'd recommend the travel swing as opposed to the giant ones (which I happen to own - ugh!).

  • I have 1. We did the wait and see approach, but both babies LOVE the swing. I wish we had 2 because often there's an unfair balance of who gets it and they've both taken turns only wanting to sleep in the swing.

By the time we realized another would be good to have, we didn't feel it was worth spending $ on.

If I could go back, I'd put 2 on the registry and hope for 2 (or buy 2) and only build 1 that way you can return 1 if necessary, but you have both in case they both love it.

  • I'm glad we only started w/ one.  Neither of my boys spent a TON of time in the swing and I'm glad we didn't have 2 set up in the living room (as it was, there was so much crap!).  If they would have been addicts, I probably would have found a used one on CL.
  • We tried putting DD & DS in a swing at the store, and they both hated it, so we ended up getting 2 different bouncers & they're great!! My initial plan was to get a bouncer and a swing, but a swing would have gathered dust in our home.
