due date change

What actually constitutes a change in your due date? At my big U/S, I measured at 22w 5d and I was (according to my due date) only at 21 w..  What makes a doctor change the date? I am almost certain that my due date is off to begin with due to my crazy cycles.. I was charting prior to my BFP and according to that, there is no way my date is REALLY june 1st.

If the doc changed your date, what made him do so? Mine hasn't been changed, but I am curious as to whether it may...

Re: due date change

  • My OB said that rearely except extreme circumstances do they change your due date. Unless the u/s shows you are several weeks off but in that case they generally do an u/s to date the pregnancy

  • I'm under the impression that the doctor only changes the due date if the LO is measuring at least 14 days bigger (That's what my doctor told me anyway).

I measured bigger my entire pg until I hit my 20 week appointment, then he slowed down and now he's right on track.

  • When I told my doctor I started my period on Oct 4 she calculated a July 11th due date.  Then they did an ultrasound and saw that baby was measuring 4 days behind that.  My doctor said since it's within 4 days she was going to keep the same due date for me.  I've since had another ultrasound and was still measuring 4 days off. Which tells me I ovulated a little later. But anyway. I don't know how far off you need to be for it to be changed. Like I said I was just 4 days.  In your case I'd think it'd be changed, but I'm no doctor.
  • they usually dont change your due date (or consider changing it) until you are measuring 10 days ahead or more...i was charting so i know my 'official' conception day/s, but have been measuring ahead since 13w1d...i am currently measuring 9 days ahead now, but still no change in my due date...apparently i am just growing a big chunky baby:)
  • According to my LP my due date was the 15 of May...when they did the u/s (the first one) he said he was changing it to the 19th of May...He said that is the only time he will change a due date is at the first u/s.....

He doesn't believe in changing them multiple times throughout the pg.

  • I've measured ahead a couple of times but my Dr won't change the due date unless she's still measuring at least 7 days ahead during my 30 week u/s.

  • according to my lmp, my due date was may 16th.... after my first ultrasound, it was may 21st. she's been measuring different every appointment, but the doctor hasn't changed anything except for the first time.
  • Good to know, I am really hoping *crossing my fingers* that my date is off enough to change it later. I teach school and the earlier the due date, the better. I don't want to be pushing it with the last days of school if I don't have to!
  • HEY!  I'm due June 1st too!  I'm so excited...anyways, I've heard what the PP have been saying.  At my big u/s dr. told me that I was a few days off, but he said that was based on due date he gave me, so I think he calculated wrong.  Anyways, I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure they will tell you if your due date changes.

  • With my second they changed the due date after my 20 week u/s because he measured about 10 days smaller.  I guess they were right because he came 8 days after my new EDD.

  • My doctor dates by early US, and that's pretty much it.  As far as it goes, the due date itself only matters in cases when the baby is really early or running late, otherwise, it's just a circle on the calendar.  DD was late (close to 2 weeks), and at that point when it 'mattered' as far as discussing induction the doctor took into consideration all of the information (dates by all the US's, LMP, when I thought I conceived) when making a decision on when we should consider it.

  • My OB changes it if the baby is measuring 10 days or more ahead in the 1st trimester.  After that, she said all babies grow at different rates, so you can't go by that.  My LMP had my due date as June 10th; but my first u/s changed it to July 1st:)  Needless to say, that was a big enough discrepency to change the dd!
  • My office will only change due date if an early u/s shows baby is 10 days ahead or behind. Later in pregnancy, due date change only if baby measuring more than 2 weeks off. Babies grow at different rates and it is harder to be accurate once you are past 14 weeks or so.
  • At my NT scan, I measured 5 days ahead, and the tech told me that "my due date has officially changed" from July 26 to the 21st.  But now I'm questioning it. (I haven't seen my doctor yet)

With DD#1, I was measuring 1 week ahead, but my EDD was never changed.  She ended up being 9 days late from my EDD, which would have been 16 days late from my ultrasound EDD.

So I think I'm going back to my original EDD, which means I'm not 15 weeks anymore *cries*.

  • My doc only give an EDD at the first US- which is usually done between 8-10 wks. She will not change it throughout the rest of the pregnancy.

Even though the baby is measuring a little small (about 1 wk off) they are not changing my EDD.

that is pretty much why they tell you it is only an EDD- you could go up to 2 wks after that date.
