Multiples

Question for those with singles and multiples

Did you get the feeling that you were pregnant with multiples before testing confirmed it? Did your pregnancy seem different from that when you were pregnant with one? Did you grow faster? Feel more sick? Just know?    Just curious here.... still several weeks away from the first u/s, but something inside keeps telling me to be open to the fact that there could be 2 in there, and I feel like I am getting huge, though I am sure its probably just bloating. Just wanted to hear other's stories! Thanks!

Re: Question for those with singles and multiples

  • i knew i had a chance for twins b/c I had an IUI with 2 mature follies... i can say that early on i was no different than my first pg - though i seemed to grow faster mostly b/c i was super bloated and my stomach was stretched out from my first pg --- most 2nd pgs you get bigger faster no matter how many are in there.

  • No, I had no idea or feeling I was carrying twins.

My m/s was much worse, and my exhaustion started earlier with this pg than with DD.  Some of that is the twins, and some of that is just that this is a different pg.

I am growing a lot faster now.  I didn't in the early days, until probably 16 weeks.  I'm exhausted more often.

The only way to know is an u/s.  GL!

  • I had no clue.

As a matter of fact I was really surprise when I found it was twins (a little before 12 weeks) as I took at least 4 HPT  over 2 weeks that I can remember and all showed up with a negative.  I would then see a faint line after the time had expired.  A week after my period was due I finally got a postive HPT - and a very very light one at that.  I knew exactly when the boys were concieved so there were no issues with my dating.

I would have thought since it was twins that those test showed have shown postive sooner being that there was more hormones in me.

With my DD I took the HPT a full week before my period was even due and that line on that sucker came up as soon as I took it out of the sample.  I also knew exactly when she was concieved also.

  • Thanks for the insights. I figured there was no way to know, but its always fun to hear stories!

  • I had a few signs that I was pg with multiples.  My beta HCG levels were super high (I conceived the twins naturally but had my hormone levels tested once I got my BFP because I have a history of ectopic pregnancies).  My OB kept saying that my dates must have been off, that I was further along than I thought and I knew when I conceived (within a day or so) so I knew my dates weren't that off.  When I told my OB that my dates were right, he said, "well, we'll see if you are having twins."

I was also showing at like 5 weeks- my mom saw my stomach and said "I bet you're having twins."  She was right :)

I am definitely MUCH sicker with my twins than I was with my son but I was pretty sick with him so I just chalked it up to another bad pg.

  • I actually did have a weird feeling that ours might be twins.

I had gone for an u/s around what should have put me at 6 weeks with my dating (because of right-sided pain).  However, I was breastfeeding when I got pg so it was off.  There was no fetal pole or HB so I was told to come in 2 weeks later to see if it was even a viable pregnancy.  They drew some HCG levels and they tripled in 48 hours, so my mom had joked that maybe there were 2, but I never in a million years thought it actually would be.

The morning of the next u/s, I remember standing in our bathroom thinking about how I'd tell our families if it was twins.  Which is really odd for me because I'm one of those people who never even thought about the possibility of multiples with either of my other 2 pregnancies.  Well, sure enough, we saw two healthy babies with strong heartbeats who are now Mary and Grace : )

    Good Luck!

  • I knew I had a chance from taking Clomid but it was a small chance.  I really didn't think I'd have twins and still have a hard time believing it.  I didn't get any bigger any faster (not until I was around 15w), didn't have more severe symptoms, nothing really different (except that I found out 1 day sooner at 9dpo, found out with DS1 at 10dpo).
  • I had no idea and was in complete panic and shock when I found out (mine were "spontaneous"). I did grow A LOT faster with this pregnancy, but in terms of levels of nausea, I would say it was the same.
