Unethical ?, WDW and dining

If you went with your 3y5mo child, would you admit that he was 3 and pay the insane prices for eating or lie and say he was still 2?  This is really for the character dining where you pay in advance.  Oh, I am not sure how admissions work either but the same would apply to my ?.

Re: Unethical ?, WDW and dining

  • I believe in karma, so I totally wouldn't lie.
  • Loading the player...
  • I couldn't lie either.  That was one of the reasons we went to WDW the week before Anthony turned 3.
  • i'm w/ breezee on the karma thing.  I would not lie about it.
  • DH wouldn't let me lie.
  • i've worked there and it's the same thing i tell people regarding airfare for kids --- pay the price like you're supposed to or you'll be looking like boo boo the fool when you get caught. plus, it's a pretty bad example to set for your kids.

I wouldn't lie but depending on the situation, I wouldn't exactly offer the info either.  We have a year pass to a local amusement park which we got when DD was 2 1/2.  I didn't buy a membership for her now that she is three.  They've never asked me at the gate and I will hope that they don't until our (DH and my) passes expire.  I don't want to get her one because then it would expire at a different time than ours.

BUT, there is a ride at this park that you have to be 3 to ride on and the lady that allows the kids on the ride was asks each kid how old they were. I thought that was funny/clever. A kid won't lie.

  • Its hardly a question of ethics.  Lying is wrong, don't do it.

I've also worked there and yes, people look like asses when they get caught. (Usually by a kid shouting about being 3, not 2!)

  • Karma and do-gooding aside, it's $30.  Just pay it.

As far as park tickets, do you know anyone who lives in Florida?  The ticket agent told us that next year, we don't have to pay full price for DSs park tickets, so long as we can get my parents (who are FL residents) to purchase his.  DH & I would still have to pay out-of-state rates, but for some reason, Disney allows children from out-of-state to pay in-state prices so long as a FL resident is buying them.  I thought that was interesting.

  • I believe kids learn more by example than anything else in life I would never lie about something like that.

I also have to add that if you can't afford to pay for him then don't go, lying is not a good option.

  • I think 5-6 months makes a big difference at this age.  No...I would not lie.  What if they ask for a birth certificate like they do sometimes on airlines?  Then your made to look like a fool?

  • I would tell the truth.

  • I would not lie. I'm of the opinion that if you can't afford something, you shouldn't be going. It would be better to skip the character dinner and grab some pizza than to lie.
  • Don't teach your children to lie.
  • Teaching your kids to lie is never a good thing. I know that DS picks up on just about everything.

  • $30 for a 3 year old to eat? Really? I don't understand why places like that don't just set the age at 5. I hardly think a 3 year old is much different than a 2.5 yo. in their eating habits, the space they take up, or anything else that would matter. While I probably wouldn't lie b/c I've been caught lying about my own age to save a few bucks in college, I think it's ridiculous how Disney handles their admissions costs.

  • My 3 year old can out-eat me. I don't think 5 seems fair. They're running a business, not a charity. I don't get the whining about this--if it's too expensive, don't go. It's not like it's required that you go there. I wanted to take the kids to sea world this summer, but I don't like that it costs $70/person, so we're not going. What good will it do to whine about it?

  • I wouldn't lie either.  If I can't afford it, then I just don't do it.  My kids have some strict dietary restrictions (and my 4.5 y/o barely eats)  so doing character dining would probably be a waste of $$ for us. So, it's probably just something we wouldn't do.  I wouldn't lie to get them in for free b/c it would be a waste of $$ to pay for them.  KWIM?  There is so much to do at Disney and you have ample opportunities to see characters, that I tend to think those character meals are just a waste of time anyway.

  • You're not really paying for the food, you're paying for the experience.  And really?  Isn't the experience FOR him?  So I don't get trying to not pay for him.

Disney isn't cheap.  It is what it is.  You're not going to be able to negotiate a bargain.  Either go and don't whine about the rates or don't.

If you think the prices are that ridiculous, skip the character meal.  Or just do one.  Whatever.  But I wouldn't lie about a kid who's almost halfway to 4 and say he's not yet 3.
