Pregnant after a Loss

Water is making me sick.

I've been nauseous for the past 3 weeks, which is fine, I'll take it. :)  The problem now is that I can't even get water down without wanting to vomit.  It seems like the only way I can get any fluids is by drinking soda.  I've given up caffeine in all other forms, but I just drank a 12 oz coke, which only has 34mg of caffeine.  That's not too bad, right?  I'm worried this might have to become and daily treat so I can get some fluids in me!

When did your m/s start to fade?

Re: Water is making me sick.

  • You have got to get the water in. My chiropractor's wife is due 2 weeks before I am and ended up in the ER with serious kidney stones because she wasn't drinking water for teh same reason. Suck on ice chips, water down gatorade or juice, eat high water content fruits like watermelon, eat the juice popsicles, try lemon water, etc. Sodas and coffee are actually more dehydrating to your body.
In memory of precious Julia, sweet baby James, and now Timmy who fought so hard.

  • Ive been sick 5 weeks now and Im just coming out the water makes me feel sick phase....at 10 weeks. I did drink a fountain coke once a day and I tried to drink the carbonated no calorie water drinks with fruit flavors. I dont think a coke a day is a bad thing. I can drink water now as long as it has lots of ice in it!! And at ten weeks Im still fighting the sickness.....Cannot wait for the second trimester!
  • That happened to me too Sad I found if I drank a little at a time.. like seriously a few ounces multiple times throughout the day, then I was able to keep down the water. It also helped to add lemon to all of my water. I went through a lemon a day probably.

My m/s didnt start to fade till 13 weeks or so. But even now I take 4mg of zofran each night or else I wake up sick.

I know you are right...I need this kind of kick in the ass_. :)  I've been forcing myself to drink a little water each day, just not as much as I'd like.  And it's only been these past few days that I really can't stomach the water, before that I was pretty good.  I've been eating tons of salads and fruits, so hopefully my body is getting some water that way.  I like your popsicle idea...I think I'll have dh pick some up when he goes to the store tonight.  Definitely don't want kidney stones!!

  • I have been using those flavor packets that you mix in bottled water. I take one of those to work and a few other bottles of water and switch between the flavored and plain.  That seems to be the only way to keep it down.  Also lemonade helps too.  For me, it's something about the sour taste.  I'm at 15 weeks and still getting sick, so I hope your m/s goes away soon!  It really has not been fun!
  • I couldn't drink water either. Doc suggested sucking on ice chips, water with a splash of juice, water with lemon or oranges. You don't want to hear this but I has m/s till 17weeks :-s

  • I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Sad  Caffeine is actually dehydrating, though I know your intentions are good.  Are you able to drink sprite or gingerale or any kind of juice?  That would be so much better than caffeinated soda.  And of course juice is better than any kind of soda.  Maybe flavored water?  What about Gatorade or Special K protein water?  I've been drinking G2, which is the low sugar version of Gatorade w/o sugar substitutes (I think?).  I hope you can find something that agrees with baby!  Hang in there!

  • Oh boy...this is going to be rough!  I'm really ok with the morning sickness, as it's just about as reassuring as an u/s to me at this point.  I had zero symptoms last time I was pregnant...so I take it all as a good sign.  But, I just tried to force myself to drink some plain ice water, and I seriously gagged.  My dh is finally starting to get that this is a huge PITA!  I feel like my freezer is making the ice taste funny, which is making the water taste/smell bad, which is making me gag.  Ugh...it's just all so weird.  So, he's going to get me some popsicles and a bag of store ice that hopefully won't have the same funky smell :)

I was doing great with the G2 stuff.  It was one of the few flavored powders I could find that didn't have aspartame.  I did grape for a week and then got sick of it, then I did fruit punch and now I'm sick of that.  Those were the only two flavors my store had.  I seriously need to just suck it up and drink some plain water...I'm going to make it happen!!

  • Try fruit popsicles.... I was the same way and i lived on popsicles. Thats what my Dr told me to try, along with ice chips. I still get sick with water, it seems like every morning I wake up really really thirsty. I drink like 1/2 bottle of water and about 10 min later I am spewing up water... like clockwork!! I hope popsicles work for you!! I hated not being able to drink water. Also try like cherry 7-up or something like that. Anything that if fluid is okay!

  • I had to do lemon in my water. I also bought good ol fashioned kool aid, made a huge pitcher, than would dilute each glass with half water...the kool aid itself was too sugary.....that seemed to help. Hopefully it won't last too long :)
