diaper bags are like purses --- everyone likes sometihng different.
I can't stand backpacks - i want my bag on my side where i can reach things in it.... some women love backpacks, twins or singletons --- it's just preference.
I like having one big strap - b/c i find with 2 straps there is always one falling off my shoulder b/c i tend to overpack even the largest bag.

yes, as the more votes come in, it's starting to even out. I MUST have only one strap b/c even though I have wider shoulders than hips, everything falls off my shoulder... good call about reaching into the side, I think it would be a PITA to put things down, pull off the backpack and get inside. I was leaning toward the messenger, and DH will like it better, too.

If I could I'd invent a backpack with a strap. I hate having to take one off to get at stuff but I cannot carry a diaper bag and lift one of the boys at the same time because the straps keep falling down and hitting my elbow.

I voted for the messenger, because I've seen the Skip Hop backpack in person and it's really small-looking. After I saw it, I decided that the regular backpack I already have is bigger and has most of the same features, anyway.
The messenger isn't huge, either. We're getting the Duo Double Deluxe for big trips, and then I thought I might use a backpack we already have for smaller trips. I also like the look of the Skip Hop Studio bag for when I want something more girly and purse-like. I go back and forth between that and the messenger...
7/2009 - Gonal-F cycle #2 with Ovidrel trigger and IUI #5 - BFP!
Twin boys born at 38 weeks 3 days!
8 months later...spontaneous BFP! And twins again!
both! we have a black, messenger skip hop that dh got at his office "baby shower". and i finally decided on a vera bradley large backpack for me. but really they're both for me i'm the one who's always carrying them! really i just like being hands free, and looking down the road to when my girls will be walking i liked the idea of the bag being balanced in the center while i hold the girls' hands. messenger can be pushed to the back as well, when you don't want something hitting against your hip.
not that you ask, but love vera bradley stuff cause you can wash it.

vera bradley's large back pack has two small pockets, one on each side, that you can reach into while it's still on your back... good for keys, etc.
Ju Ju Be's Packabe can be worn as a backpack or a messenger bag. I've used it both ways although I prefer the backpack, messengers tend to slide off my shoulders.
We started with a backpack and then got a messenger style (Diaper Dude) and like it better. Quicker to sling on and off and easier to find things in that shape of bag.
