The SAHM Book Club Weekly Check-In: Join us!

Welcome to The SAHM Book Club Weekly Check-in!Our Book Club is open to anyone, at anytime, who would simply like to set a reading goal for the year, keep track of what they have read so far, read up on reviews of books everyone else is reading and make your own recommendations.  You can read whatever you want, this is not a traditional book club where we select & discuss a book as a group! For anyone who'd like to participate in these weekly check-ins and join our Google Document Tracker, reply to this post with:*Your 2010 reading goal ("X" number of books you will read this year)*How many books you have read so far*What you are currently reading*Any books you'd like to recommendOnce you read the book that was on your "currently reading" list from the previous check-in or if you toss that book aside and switch gears, be sure to mention it in these weekly check-ins as that is how I update the spreadsheet.
***SHOUTOUTS AND QUESTIONS FROM ME***Princess_Ariel - I, too LOVE audio books, what a great way to multitask!
Seans_grl - The Friday Night Knitting Club is THE best book I read in 2009, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!  I also recommend another Kate Jacobs book Comfort Food. Carlysuesmity - Yes, 5 books bound together counts as 5 books... at least to me! Merengue57 - Did you also finish The Last Summer of Her Other Life
for a total of 4 books completed so far?  Or set it aside and pick up Slow Moon instead for a total of 3 books completed so far?
As always, for those currently participating, please go to the spreadsheet and check your info for accuracy:https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pP-G753WjUy5mJcfocJFlMg&output=htmlBe sure you check the tabs at the bottom of the Google Spreadsheet for the "Recommendations" tab if you are looking for something to read!

  • I checked out your blog - it looks great. I'm also a huge fan of whole foods but the only one around is 60 miles away. Boo. I usually make the trip once a month. I plan our weekly meals ahead and shop on Mondays - with a budget of $60/week for meals/diapers. How much do you budget per week?

Oh, thank you, that's so nice of you to say!  I budget $150 per week for every meal & snack for the three of us and it almost always works out to that, over the past 3 years.  That's so amazing you can do it for only $60 per week, congratulations!!!

  • I finished The Color Purple... very good! To be honest, I did not like it at first. But, as it went on, wow! I'll have to see the movie again because it has been awhile.

I am now reading "Pull Your Own Strings" by Wayne Dyer and "Neversink Mountain" - about the mountain I live on.

  • I'm still reading Swimsuit. Class started last wednesday so I've been in the textbooks instead of reading for fun!

I am really enjoying two of my classes though. :) Do I get to count those books toward my goal? lol

  • I can't remember which book I had read the last time I checked in, but I am up to 5 for the year (In the Woods, Grave Secrets, Monday Mourning, Cross Bones and The Curse of the Spellmans).  I am currently reading The Thirteenth Tale and I am so into it- the author is truly a lover of books and reading so it's making me all warm and fuzzy!

  • I finished Juliet, Naked -- loved it!  Especially funny if you have a DH who is a fanatic about music or some other collection.

I'm starting Nobody Move by Denis Johnson

  • I finished Sellevision by Augusten Burroughs.  It was downright hilarious and a very easy read.  I have Freakanomics coming in the mail hopefully by the end of the week.

  • I loved the Thirteenth Tale. It was such a different read. Enjoy!
  • I finished my second book, The Hour I First Believed by Wally Sparks.  It was fantastic.  One of my all-time favorites.  It's long, but definitely worth it.

I'm now on Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella.

  • I'll join you girls again this year and I'll aim for 15 books again.  So far I've read 2, Chasing Harry Winston (fun and would have been a great beach read) and The Last Song (typical sappy Nicolas Sparks).  Right now I'm reading Momfidence and I want to pick up a fun read too, but don't know what yet.

  • I am now up to 5 for the year.  I have been reading the O'Malley series by Dee Henderson and am just waiting on the next one from the library.  I'm also going to pick up Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.  We don't have a lot of debt, but I keep hearing good things about it so I thought I'd give it a quick read.

  • Thanks for the shout out.  If that's the case, I've finished two books this week.  Unveiled and Unashamed, part of the Lineage of Grace series by Francine Rivers.  I'm working on the last three, they read really fast.  But so good!
For Jodi Picoult fans.....and suggestions for another author like her? I love her books, but wanted to branch out and try a new author.

  • I am on my 3rd book, The Undomesticated Goddess by Sophie Kinsella.  I love it!  My plan was to read 2 books a month but I am almost finished with this book and I have my 4th book ready to go!  I forgot how much I loved to read :)

ETA: I finished my book (so 3 books so far)!  I'm reading Cross, Cross, by James Patterson now.

Wife to Drew since 08.18.2007 Mom to Andrew since 10.18.2008 Runner, baker, reader, eater
  • So I'm still on book number 2, however I have changed which book that is.  I only got a few pages into The Lost Symbol when someone told me I needed to read The Davinci Code first... so now I am.

Book 2 The Davinci Code, NOT The Lost Symbol (that will be book 3 I'm sure...)

  • Mrs.Shavers~ I LOVED The Friday Night Knitting Club.  I'll definitely check out Comfort Food, thanks!

Can you update my info?  I (obviously) finished The Friday Night Knitting Club and am currently reading Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult.

  • I am new, so I will answer the questions posted above.

*I guess my reading goal would be to read 40 books. I tend to read one a week now, but since I am expecting in June I will try to be realistic. Plus, I tend to indulge in easy reads.

*I have read 4 so far this year: The Last Song, Wish You Well, This Charming Man, and All I Ever Wanted was Everything.

*I am reading Rich Again by Anna Maxted. I picked it up at Target yesterday.

*Last year my favorite was probably The Help, so I guess I would recommend that to those of you who haven't read it. I also like All I Ever Wanted was Everything.

  • Hi!

Ok, I just finished "Judge and Jury" by James Patterson.  That makes 3 so far for the year ( "Suite Francaise" by Irene Neimirovsky, "Dear John" by Nicholas Sparks, and "Judge and Jury" by James Patterson.)

I just started the "Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger.  I have been really looking forward to reading this!

*Your 2010 reading goal ("X" number of books you will read this year) - I'm going to say one a month, so 12.

*How many books you have read so far - Only one; I just finished Mercy by Jodi Picoult.

*What you are currently reading - Nothing right now, but I'm looking for suggestions.

*Any books you'd like to recommend - There are so many, but for now I'll say...
