2nd Trimester

Ever get poked, kicked, stepped on in the belly (by accident)?

I went to pick up my son today from daycare, and since it was raining, I carried him out to make it quicker.  Well, he was happy and he kicked his foot a little bit right into my stomach right around where the baby is.  He didn't do it hard or anything and didn't do it on purpose.  But, now, of course I'm concerned.  I'm 12.5 weeks.  Please make me feel better!

  • You're fine. Things are going to bump your stomach at on point or another.

  • You're okay! My blue heeler jumped once and jabbed me :P And I've accidently smooshed myself against things (like countertops)

Baby is VERY protected, it takes alot.

  • Agree w/ PP, don't worry, you'll be fine.  Baby has lots of padding.  :)  I run an in-home daycare and my kiddos are constantly crawling in my lap and kneeing, elbowing, etc. me in my stomach.  You're belly/uterus was designed to take a little damage if necessary.  :)  Hope this helps.
  • At 16 weeks, my 275 pound husband slipped getting up from the couch and fell directly on my abdomen. I was a mess, starting bleeding and having sharp pains. Went to the doctor the following morning and everything was normal. My doctor reminded me that our babies are like fish in a bag full of water. They are well protected and move according to pressure whether it is kicks, hits, etc. I am sure you are fine and if you worry, call your doctor!
  • Your fine! My 23 month old loves to cuddle up next to me hard. Pushing into my stomach and then when he gets up for some reason loves to try and crawl over me. Sometimes getting in a kick with his feet if i dont move fast enough.
  • My dog accidentally steps on my stomach when I'm laying in bed. I almost feel bad for HER...there are so many pillows it's like a land mine and she doesn't know where she can step and if I'm not paying attention sometimes its right in my stomach.
  • My cat loves climbing on me, and his favorite two places to put those pokey paws are belly and bladder. You'll be fine. :D

  • A friend of mine got kicked very hard by her older child when pregnant. She did go to the doc because she was RH negative, or whatever the concern is there. Everything was fine.

My son prods me all the time. He's a cuddle monkey and my bulging belly is getting in the way now. I don't really worry about the baby. I worry more about me. He did it last night after I ate dinner. I was so full, then both he and the baby were pushing on my stomach from different angles! I thought I was going to hurl!

Babies are well protected in there!

  • My son kickes me a lot and also pushes into my belly when he gets up from being held....I think he is just trying to tell the baby who is boss! I think you are ok! Plus, the baby should still be tucked low under your pelvic bone.
  • I'm sure you're fine. My DH actually asked our doctor if it would hurt the baby if he rolled over and accidentially kneed me in the belly while we're asleep (it does happen Stick out tongue) and she said the baby would be fine. She actually told him that a whop in the belly wouldn't hurt the baby, but a baseball bat would, which he found very humorous. Also, my VERY fat cats will jump up on my belly all the time when I'm not looking and I haven't had any problems.
  • When we had our 'big u/s' the baby wasn't cooperating and the tech kept pushing the u/s wand up and down on my belly to get him to move around, if that was safe, I think just about anything is, especially a kick from your DS.  Big Smile
  • my 30+lb dog jumps on my belly almost every other night! she steps on it quite a bit too. just makes the baby wiggle around and kick at it! there is LOTS of padding in there to protect your baby so don't worry too much! if you have any spotting and cramping call your dr
