I'm moving to Birmingham and I wish I could take the pediatrician I have here with me. Anyone from that area recommend one? If not, does anyone know a good website with reviews on pediatricians.
I know many of us on here use Greenvale Pediatrics. They have an Alabaster office, 280 office, and Hoover office. I use Dr. Glasgow on 280 and LOVE him! He never rushes out on me and completely answers all of my questions. I really can't say enough good things about him. They have an after-hours nurse to call and are open on Saturdays. The only one on 280 (Brook Highland) that I really don't care for is Dr. Whitaker, but all the rest are great too. If you're looking at the Hoover office, I would recommend Dr. Cortopassi, he is also great! Here is a link to their website:
We use Dr. Glasgow at Greenvale peds on 280. He was my sister and my ped, he is also my nephew's ped. And now my DD. He is wonderful. Also works well with DD's other docs, doesn't try to second guess. (Original ped did that.) And I drive from McCalla to 280 about a 30-45 minute trip depending on traffic. (Original ped was 10 min from home.)
We use Birmingham Pediatrics at St. Vincent's. We had a hard time finding a pedi who was accepting new patients near home (Pelham) so we went with the group recommended by DD's neonatologist and NICU nurses. Love them so far :-)
We use Pediatrics East. I live in the Clay/Trussville area and the office we normally go to is down the street from our house. We usually see Dr. Miller, however Dr. Harmon and Dr. Dietlyn are very good as well. I love the practice and have had a great experience so far, but I will admit that my decision was partly based on the location/convenience. I work from home and b/c of DH's schedule he's home lots too so being closer to home makes sense for us.
Ditto! Cortopassi is ours, he's great & Petelos is excellent @ Hoover too. We've also seen 3 other Drs within the practice and they're all very friendly and knowledgeable.
Pros to going with a large practice are they have resources like:
a larger staff & an on-call nurse after hours
the Greenvale Hoover location has a Well-Child Center (so you don't have to go to the same bldg as sick kids)
you can request Prescription Refills Online {sometimes more convenient than having to wait on a nurse to answer/call you back}
But perhaps some of these things might be available at the single-physician offices or smaller practices too...you just have to call and check.
I will say that Greenvale Drs don't do Pedi Interviews {or at least mine doesn't...but then again he came super-highly-recommended and I was told by many we were lucky b/c he usually doesn't accept new patients}
But of course, if we really didn't like our Pedi, we can always switch...

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Gilbert at Mayfair Medical in Homewood. She is also my Ob/Gyn's pedi.
