Other than ripping out the carpet...

...is there any way to get the cat pee smell out? I feel like I have tried everything. My male cat had a urinary blockage and when he finally came home from the Vet he found this one spot in the dining room and pee'd there repeatedly. I got the 'visible' stains out, but it still wreaks to high hell. Today I doused it with Carpet Cleaner (the kind for a steam cleaner) that is designed for pets so it supposedly has some enzymes in it, but if that doesn't work, I don't know what else to do.

Re: Other than ripping out the carpet...

  • have you tried natures miracle?? That's the only thing i have found that works.

Also when my cat peed in DS's infant carrier, vinegar water took the smell out of the "clothe" and baking powder took the smell out of the plastic. (make the baking soda into a paste and pack it onto the effected area, let dry, then clean off and re-peat till smell is gone)

  • Nothing works if its set into the carpet and the pad. We had a cat that had the same problem and he went in a few spots that took us a day or two to find. We tried EVERYTHING, and it always had a funny smell especially when it was hot out.

Once it sinks into the padding, and even the subfloor below its in there for good. We had to rip out the carpet, padding, and scrub the sub-floors. Gross!

  • It's in a corner. Do you think that I could get away with pulling back the carpet, ripping out the padding there, scrubbing the floor and then soaking that corner of the carpet with Nature's Miracle?

  • I've used Nature's Miracle (also have a cat with urniary issues).  You have to follow the directions exactly or it won't work.  There's another product I've heard about from the pet's board called Urine Out or something like that.
