Getting a breast pump today

I'm kinda excited about getting over to the hospital to rent a breast pump today.  I want to store up a bunch of milk so that other people can feed my daughter but also so that when I have to ween her she can continue to get breast milk.

I am wondering about weening and then reintroducing breastfeeding.  I will have to ween Ophelia around 5-6 months so that my DH and I can go through IVF again (hormone shots).  I have begun to wonder if I could pump and dump during the shots and then reintroduce breastfeeding afterward.  The shots only last for about a month or so.

Re: Getting a breast pump today

  • i BFd DD, but then ended up pumping more than anything.  we went on a road trip when she was 4 mos and i nursed her b/c it was much easier.  well, she kind of looked at me like - what are you doing?  from my experience, a month off the breast is a long time and it might be a challenge to get your DD back on.  that could have just been my experience though.  who knows...

  • getting her back on the breast might be EXTREMELY difficult after a month off.

I agree. I have kids that REFUSE bottles alltogether, and I pumped and wasted a LOT of BM because I had to toss it. GL to yoU!
