I was uber-paranoid with Ava. Like.....she didn't have a blanket until she was over 2. (She always had the wearable blankets on).
Already, I've already put a blanket on Lila, but only for a nap, where I'm awake and I know I'll be checking on her frequently. Plus, she still doesn't move too much in there at 6 mos.
When did you start to put a blanket on them and feel comfortable doing so? When did you start putting a blanket on them for overnights?
Re: When did you start putting blanket on baby?
Wow..do you place her on her tummy or does she roll over that way? Why did you do this? I'm curious, b/c L ws sleeping horribly a few mos ago and my mom told me to ask the pedi if I could put her on her belly- he said not recommended until they can do it on their own. BUt I'm not even sure if she would like it, she HATES being on her belly during the day!
Early. Maybe 5 months? Maybe earlier.
The blanket Max has is very, very light and breathable one. I didn't put it there with him for warmth though. I just wanted him to have something that he associates with sleep and comfort. It has been a Godsend. When I check on him at night, it is never on him, but wadded up into a ball and under his belly. I don't think Sam had a blanket actually stay on him until he was moved to his big boy bed.
I started almost immediately. Well, for daytime sleeping it was about 1 month or so and at night probably when DD was about 2 months. But only the super light, swaddling type and only from waist down.
BUT .... I felt fine with it because when she was a baby, she never BUDGED when she was sleeping. It was like she was glued in place. How ever I put her down, was exactly how she stayed all night. And now, she is a kicking, mule who never stops moving when she sleeps. Absolute hell to sleep with, lol.

hmmmm....the problem is...L's room happens to be a cold room! So I have a baby blanket on her- it's not as thick as a quilt, but it sounds thicker than what you are describing....and I do need it for warmth. I already put 2 wearable blankets on her, and I"m sure she's fine, but I'd love to put that xtra blanket on her and not worry. But I'm not sure I could sleep.

Yeah, I thought that my post wasn't all that helpful after I posted it.
When Max wasn't moving much in his crib, I did take a knitted quilt (still breathable, but definitely warmer) and put it on him from the armpits down. Then I tucked the bottom in at the end of the crib and the sides in on both sides.
I should have posted that suggestion first!
I put her on her tummy. She can roll both ways now but doesn't usually if she's tired...she'll just go to sleep. My DD#1 & #2 were horrible sleepers & I never did tummy w/ either of them. For DD#3 I discovered her love of sleeping on her tummy because every time I put her in tummy time on the floor she'd go to sleep--LOL! She sleeps 100Xs better than my other 2 now that she tummy sleeps. I figure w/out a bumper, a fan going, a paci & the Angelcare monitor it's safer than co-sleeping...which is my other coping method for dealing w/ crappy sleepers. She even STTN as an infant which neither of my other 2 did!
