2nd Trimester

Would you go to the dr?

God, I hate these questions haha  I posted about this the other day but things have changed a little.

As of Wednesday I'll have been fighting a head cold/sinus thing for two weeks.  At first I felt really, honestly SICK.  For the past week or so it's just that I blow my nose a hundred times a day.  I considered calling the doctor last week when the discharge turned thick and greenish but the next day it was back to clear!  I get random greenish moments and the rest is just clear.

I'm torn because I feel like clear is not a reason for concern and I don't want them sticking me on antibiotics for no reason.  But at the same time, I feel that two weeks and still "sick" tells me maybe this isn't going away on its own.  Thoughts?

  • I had a cold for 3 weeks with green discharge. It eventually went away. You probably have the same thing going around.

  • I had a nasty cold for a few weeks. I didn't have a fever so I just hung in there and slept a lot. I was honestly really sick for about a month- just rest a lot and make sure to eat well. If you get a fever, go to the doc!
  • Icky effects from a cold can last for weeks.  I would let it clear up on its own.

  • Thanks everyone - that's what my head was telling me but I didn't want to be stubborn about going to the doctor haha  I'll make sure it doesn't worse and that I don't get a fever.

  • I'm pretty much in the same position as you.  I cannot shake this cold.  Had it at end of December and now it's back with avengence.  I know that nasal congestion is one of the lovely things 2nd trimester can bring, but my ears are so sore now and my glands are swollen.  And, this morning, I started with a cough.

Needless to say, I'm going to the doctor tomorrow because I'm one that gets sinus infections a LOT and I'd rather nip it now than loose sleep cuz I can't breathe!

    GL to you!!!!

  • Went to the Dr for pretty much the same reason and they put me on antibiotics which made to discharge go back to clear.  Did not help with anything else and neither the Dr or Midwife was happy to let me take anything for the congestion, both said I just had to suffer it out.  I know that some Drs will recomend over the counter stuff I just think it what dr you have.
  • I had the exact same thing and I saw my doctor (for my regular checkup) during that time.  She didn't seem to be concerned at all, and she said that not only do pregnant women get sick more often, but it takes a lot longer to clear up.  She did give me a list of medications that were safe to take for congestion (regular Sudafed and Robitussin are ok) but I don't think it's something I would've gone in to see her about had I not already had an appt scheduled.  My cold started about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I'm still getting a ton of snot, but every day it gets a little better.

    Hope you feel better soon!!!

  • I know that it sounds icky, but have you tried irrigating your sinuses?  You can try a Netty pot and use warm salt water, or they have nasal irrigation kits you can buy.  Just make sure they only have saline in them.  I've had tons of sinus issues in my life, and whenever I get the on again, off again green junk, this is what my ear, nose, and throat specialist recommends.  GL and hope you feel better!

  • 3-4 weeks for me with 3 weeks of absolutely no smell or taste.   If you aren't having a fever and you are able to get some sleep I say wait it out.
  • Add me to the sinus infection club... I hate taking antibiotics because they will give me the runs AND a yeast infection and it always just feels like I'm traiding one misery for another.

My husband called me this morning and when I answered the phone- he asked if I was there... I said yes- and he asked if he could speak with me!!!  It's THAT bad!
