Cost of Daycare in KC?

Hi Ladies! MIL is actually staying home with LO when I go back to work, but we have no idea what to pay her. We want it to be a fair rate compared to the local area. Would anyone care to share the rates they've found from local daycares or nannies?

Thanks!

Re: Cost of Daycare in KC?

  • The DC my duo were in the first few months I was back to work was roughly $1000 a month. Since August though they have been staying home. DH doesn't have to leave for work until 1:30pm so he is home with them in the mornings, my MIL comes over two days a week so we don't have to pay a nanny for those days. So that all being said, we have a nanny for 15 hours tops a week and pay her $10 an hour. When she is here though, she has it easy. They are already done with lunch and are getting ready to go down for a nap when she arrives. They sleep for about 2 hours and then it is just snack and play time until I get home. So our of the 5 hours she is there, about half of it is during naps.

  • We have a friend watch our little guy and it is $125 per week... a regular brick and mortar daycare  seems to run about $190 for infants... home daycares seem to be much cheaper
  • We pay 285 for two weeks for part time 3 days a week.
  • We pay $150/week for an in-home care center for our little one.  The provider has a max of 4 children (currently only 3 though).  Our almost 4-yr old daughter goes to "preschool" at a YMCA early learning center, and hers costs $155/week ($10/week discount since we're Y members).  They have different rates for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and I believe infants run about $225/week.
