To ergo or not to ergo

I have a moby and a sling.  She's getting a bit big for the peanut sling, so it's not great for extended wear.  The moby is awesome around the house but a bit intricate for outings, quick trips, etc.  So tell me, is the ergo worth $100?

Re: To ergo or not to ergo

  • YES! Love my Ergo! I have a pouch, a Babyhawk, a woven wrap, a woven converted to ring sling... But the Ergo is probably my fav :)

  • It's worth that and more.

Hands down, the best baby purchase I've made (for perspective, I also have a moby, a ring sling, and a hand-me-down bjorn).

Even with very conservative math, my ergo is down to sixty-two cents an hour...and I can't imagine we'll stop using it anytime in the near future.

    HTH!

  • A cheaper alternative to the Ergo would be a mai tei.  They seem to run around $80.  Although I do think that an SSC is a great investment.  There are alternatives to the Ergo but they aren't necessarily cheaper.  You should check out the Portable Baby for a comparison of the major SSCs.
  • Honestly, the best investment I ever made was in my Angelpak (strongly considered Ergo too but found a great deal on my APLX).  I hemmed and hawed over the investment too b/c it was so much $$$, but in the end, it was so worth it that I wish I had done it way, way sooner.  I was so much more comfy with less back pain than I was in my Moby or my sling b/c DS was so heavy by that point.  I could have avoided all of that if I'd just gotten a different carrier sooner.  I'd say go for it.

(PS- I bought mine for DS1, so it's been awhile.  However, I really liked the site/lady that I bought mine from.  You might want to check out frogmama dot com.  I got a great deal there, and she got it to me really fast.)

  • I like our Ergo a lot.

  • we just got ours and i am in love.  I would say it is worth it because of how long it can last.  We plan to use it until she can independently walk everywhere or is too big for it.  Plus we plan on having #2 in the next 1.5yrs and it will be a longterm investment...

I love the sleep hood and the front pocket.  I am cursing taking the car seat out of the car since I just slide her in.

We do not have the infant insert but I just use a receiving blanket to support her neck.

    I would say do it!

Also look on ebay, we got ours for under $90 brand new.
