Pregnant after a Loss

NBR: I hate renting! (small vent)

DH is finishing his master's in Education and only has 2 months left before he can student teach and then finally be a credentialed teacher. Last year 20% of current teachers were laid off due to budget cuts resulting in an overabundance of experienced teachers, so DH getting hired over one of them is highly unlikely.

Right now we live in an apartment and we have been putting off buying a house because who knows where he'll end up getting a job. So we have been looking for a house to rent until we know where we will be living. There is absolutely NOTHING!

To give you an idea: we just looked at a 2bd/1ba 850sqft house with a yard but no garage for $1450. I looked inside and it was disgusting! One of the rooms was an add-on that was probably not done legally and the entire house was done in the ceramic tile that you would find in a high school cafeteria.

I am just so frustrated! Sorry it wasn't such a small vent after all.

  • The housing market in CA is insane! Stay positive you'll find a place and it will be great!

  • I certainly feel your pain.  We've also been putting off buying until we settle somewhere for sure, and renting is the pits.  We're in a 1 bedroom 1.5 bath 850 sf. place that rents for almost 2K a month.  We've been looking for a 3 bedroom place to rent, and it's been hard!

We're hoping it's just the time of year and that come spring more places will be on the market!

  • Wow - rent in your area is expensive.  We live in the boonies so we only pay $400 a month for our 3 bedroom house.  You need to move to Illinois - anywhere but Chicago - and you'll be able to find something.  Good luck to your husband.  I'm also a teacher and I'm staying with my current school even though the pay and benefits aren't the best because of the risk of losing my job if I switch.  The teaching market is hard, but it looks better to have a masters.
