2nd Trimester

Moms who plan to have 2+ kids- convertible crib or not?

we were thinking of getting a convertible crib, for the value... but we plan to have a second child.

So, guessing we would buy a new convertible crib for baby#2?  Or is it cheaper to buy a toddler bed for the first baby when they grow out of the crib, then a twin when they need it, and use the converitble crib and bed for the 2nd child?

Ugh, it is all so confusing and quite overwhelming... all these decisions! Stick out tongue

  • We got a more expensive set with a convertible or stages crib.  A lot of the other cribs were drop sides which I didn't want.  I figure if #2 comes along we can decide to either keep the furniture nursery or have it move up with baby #1....at least we have the option.

  • We are buying a convertible crib and plan on having more than one child.  I think we will just cross that bridge when we come to it.  I think we would probably just buy another convertible crib.

  • I bought a convertible crib so I have options when baby #2 comes along.
  • Honestly, we didn't see many options that weren't convertible. But we'll just cross that bridge when we come to it since we don't know if/when we'll have #2.

  • We bought a convert. crib for DD1. She has it as a toddler bed right now, and for her 3rd birthday she is getting a BIG girl (full size) bed . Her bed also converts to that too. We are buying a whole nother convert. crib for this baby too. My kids can stay in the full size (a tad smaller than a queen) until they move out! lol

  • Our plan is to buy a convertible crib for #1, and then by the time #2 comes along, she should be ready for a twin bed, so we'll just get a new twin for her, and use the crib set again for #2.  We're planning around a 3 year age difference, though (of course, we'll see what ACTUALLY happens!)

  • We bought a convertible crib but I thought we'd only use the bed for the last baby.  However, we are having another one a little sooner than originally planned and I don't know that DD will be ready to be out of her crib.  I think we'll just buy another similar crib for #2 and then we'll be good on furniture until they move out.  Ours turns into a toddler and then a double bed so I figure it's much cheaper in the long run!
  • We have a convertible crib, but did not buy the rails.  A lot of the convertible cribs don't recommend converting back to a crib after it has been toddler bed.  Most of my friends also had better luck with the transition to a big bed buy buying a big bed.  With the crib they LO felt like they were still in a crib.  If you end up like me you will be just moving the next LO to the crib anyway instead of buying a 2nd crib.

  • We have a convertible crib for DS, but that is going to the new baby and he is getting a toddler bed. We will probably convert it for baby #2

  • We will buy a convertible crib for this little one just like we did for my son. Since we are planning to have more children, I am not sure what we will do after this one though.

    This for us too!

  • We have a convertible crib for DS, but we just bought him a toddler bed and we're keeping the crib for when this LO arrives.

  • We have a convertible, because we liked the crib - not because it converts.  We have used the crib for #1 & #2 and will use it for #3.  We have never converted it, but may when #3 gets there...  We have a twin, so it would depend if we even want to go there on trying a toddler bed (since we didn't w/ the girls) - or just go straight to a twin as the girls have.
  • We bought a convertible crib and figured if we have another one we will get a second convertible crib for #2.  They will both keep their own cribs/toddler beds/ full beds until they move out. When we did the math we thought it was cheaper to do that than to buy toddler beds and then full size beds for 2 kids.

  • We bought a non-convertible crib because we knew we'd have kids relatively close in age, and therefore converting the crib into a bed wouldn't make much sense when #2 came along and we'd actually need the crib.  When we transition my son into his bed, he's going to be part of the process, i.e., help us pick out the bed, the bedding, etc. That way, he can feel like he's not getting bounced from his room for the new baby and can be involved in his "becoming a big boy" process.  Well, that's the plan anyone - we'll see Stick out tongue
  • It is usually cheaper to buy a toddler bed than it is to buy the rails to convert the crib.  It would also depend on if you plan to have #2 before #1 will be out of the crib.  We knew we would have them pretty close and opted to buy the convertible crib for ds.  I also kind of like the sentimental value that it will be his bed for quite a few years to come.
  • We have a convertible crib (though not cheap) for DS and we are getting another convertible crib (again, not cheap... about $600/crib) for this baby.  We will convert the cribs to grow with them.  We plan to change DS to the toddler bed as soon as he's (I'm) ready ;)

For baby #3, not sure what we'll do yet.
