Medela PISA review from Ameda user

So yesterday my Ameda PY broke after 3 months of use and I had to run out to get a new pump since I pump several times a day everyday.

The only double electric battery operated pump I could find was a Medela PISA, and so far I am very happy!

I pumped 2 oz in 2 minutes, 3 oz in 5 minutes and 6 oz in 10 minutes, wow!  With my Ameda it took 30 minutes or more to pump 4 oz, which has caused my supply to tank since I work full time and can only pump a maximum of 15 minutes at a time, and I was always engorged at work since it took forever for anything to come out (and I had changed the valves and membranes monthly with no difference).

The PISA is also very comfortable, my nipples don't hurt like they did when I used the Ameda (and I had tried several different flange sizes).

So far I really like it, I can pump more in a shorter amount of time with no nipple pain.  It seems to be just as loud as the Ameda, and is heavier, but easier to carry around since it is made into the bag.

Hopefully my supply will increase now that I can pump more, I wish I would have bought this from the begining instead of trying to save 80$.  So far I no longer dread pumping.  YAY!

  • I've also used both.  Much prefer the PISA (though like the PY collection system better).  The PISA is just a better pump.

  • I totally agree! I bought a lansinoh (same as ameda) and then insurance covered a PISA - such a better pump and definitely worth the higher price tag.
