Hi everyone!
On my first doc apt at 6 weeks (very early, I know)...I had my blood sugar levels tested and they were a bit above normal. My doc had me see a Diabetes specialist and a nutritionist who put me on a very strict diet for 3 weeks (no white bread/rice/pasta, no added sugar of any kind, no potato, no carrot, no pumpkin, no sweet potato, no banana or watermelon, no butter or egg yoke and cheese only in very small doses).
I am due to go back and get my blood sugar levels tested again at the beginning of Dec (when I'll be close to 9 weeks pregnant).  I'm hoping that with my change in diet and daily exercise (I do 50 minutes on the elliptical every day), the levels will be back to normal and at some point I can have a potato or even a chocolate every once in a while!
But, if not, then I'll have to see about starting insulin; which sucks.
Has anyone else ever had this problem and how did you cope with the adjustments in your diet?
Thanks for any advice/info you can give! ![]()
Re: Having to watch blood sugar levels early - 1st tri
What test's did they use to determine your blood sugar levels. Generally there are 3 tests they do before they start a diabetic diet. I ask because it seems Very extreme to start some one on insulin after only two appointments. Unless they have dangerously high blood glucose levels. GET a second opinion!!!
Yes I had one test that came back a bit high. But natural fluctuations can cause this during pregnancy. All other tests were normal.
