Sharp pains on my left side

I've had pain on my left side on and off all day today.. I thought it was just gas but the pain varies in waves of intensity.. It got so bad I called my OB and after asking me a million questions he told me to drink lots of water and lay on my right side and to call him back in an hour... What could it be? I had a prenatal massage today but I had this pain before I went.... I'm freaking out a bit....

Re: Sharp pains on my left side

  • OB had no answers?

Maybe just that one of the babes is positioned strangely? Last week, I was getting cramping, wave-like pains low on my abdomen. I think it was because I let myself get dehydrated. :( I put my feet up for awhile (seriously, I taught class that way) and all was well. But the pain was not good--to the point where my students asked if I was feeling okay.

I hope it's just something minor!

  • Have you had any round ligament pain yet? It can be pretty sharp and intense.... If you're not dehydrated that would be my best guess besides one of the babies hitting a nerve.

not sure about round ligament pain? I have some pulling or tugging sensation if I get up too fast... I do think I'm dehydrated though.... Now that I'm laying down the pain isn't coming as frequent but it comes back when I stand up :-(

  • RLP normally runs up and down the belly, not across so that's an easy way to tell. And its sharp and its normally only when you're moving, you wouldn't notice it when laying down.

  • I got a TON of pain starting around 20 weeks on my left side under my ribs. Now I get it on my right side under my ribs. The OB thought (and now we know) that its a positioning thing. I have a very short torso so there isnt much room in there. I dont know if that i similar in position to where your's is but it could be a position thing. Or it could be RLP too. I get that every so often. I hope it goes away quickly, and doesnt get worse! Get comfy on the couch and have your DH take good care of you and baby bears.

Hm. I notice mine across the front, deep into my groin and low on my belly. Sometimes it comes from lying in one position too long too. Maybe I am wrong on what this is but I can't imagine what else it would be.
