Baby Names

Help decide between 2 very different girl names....

This is our last baby and it's a girl:)  We have a Sophia Rose currently.  The majority of the family (including husband) wants to name the baby after my DH, Steve.  we would name her Stevie _____(also need help with a mn please!!)  We orginally had Addelyn Grace picked out.  So, please vote which one you like best...including mn ideas for Stevie and spelling for Addelyn (Adelyn, Addelyn, Addalyn, Adalyn, Adalynn etc)

Thanks a bunch:)

Re: Help decide between 2 very different girl names....

  • I don't like Stevie for a little girl at all. I do like Addelyn.

  • Speaking of two very different girl names...I don't think Sophia & Stevie go well together.  Addalyn is cute!

  • I work with a woman named Stevi.  I personally think it's awful...  Adelyn is cute and goes much better with Sophia.
  • Is your DH named Stephen? Have you considered using Stephanie?
  • I really, really dislike Stevie for a girl...
  • I have to agree.. not a big fan of Stevie for a girl...and I typically like boy names for girls...

Addlyn is ok... too close to Addison for me.

I was thinking the name Sylvie would be a good compromise and would go nicely with Sophia. Just a thought. Good luck!

Edit: wow.. I cannot even spell your other choice correctly either!

  • Stevie Grace sounds cute! Good Luck

He is a Steven.  I am not a huge fan of Stephanie either.  I love hearing all your opinions, since I am not so sure on Stevie myself.  I also don't really care for the way Sophia and Stevie sound together.

  • I think Addelyn Grace is a very pretty name and goes well with Sophia.

Stevie is a more boyish name and doesn't really go Sophia.  I do have a cousin named Stevie Jo, though.

    What about Addelyn Stevie?

I kinda like this.  Thanks:)  We do call my daughter Sophie a lot....I think Sophie and Stevie sounds a little better than Sophia and Stevie.

  • I agree with everyone about Stevie. Sorry...

  • Sorry, I think Stevie is awful.

I also think the Addelyn spelling is awful.  Adeline is the only spelling that looks appropriate to me.

This.  Except I'd spell it Addalyn.

  • I like Addalyn way better. Could you use Stevie as the middle name?

  • I really really really wouldn't use Stevie for a little girl! That seems like near torture!

I do love Addelyn Grace though!

  • No way I would name my daughter Stevie. Also it does not go well with Sophia, the other name is very pleasant!
  • Adelyn :-)  It's DD's middle name.
  • I don't know, I think Stevie is cute.

I would spell it Adelyn but I feel like this is a name that can obviously be spelled a million ways and is really becoming trendy. Seems like there are a lot of Adelyns, Addisons and Adelaides. I also don't like Grace as a middle name since everyone is using it.

I agree with this.  I think Stevie is awful and even worse considering you would be using it as a first name, not even a nickname.  She would definitely feel shortchanged in comparison to Sophia which is a beautiful, girly name.

  • I don't like Stevie at all.  The other one is just not my style.Maybe you could find something similar like Stefanie. I love the name Sophia Rose:)
  • I'm sorry, but I think Stevie for a girl is awful! Stephanie is the closest female variation of Steve, so if you decide to name her after him, PLEASE so with Stephanie and NOT stevie.  Overall, I prefer Adalynn.

  • I'm in the minority, but I think Stevie is much better than Adelyn. I would pair it with something feminine. I like Stevie Mae : )
  • I think Stevie is adorable and unexpected. I love boys names for girls! I would choose a very feminine middle name.

  • I also really dislike Stevie for a girl.  It kind of says "DH really wanted a boy for a junior, but they got me instead."  I think Stephanie Grace would be nice, though.  As for Addelyn, I prefer the spelling Adelyn.

  • I'm with those who would stick with Adelyn and then use Stevie as the MN.  This way you can still honor DH, but she can have a strong, but feminine name.

  • I think it is strange to have a very girl name like Sophia and then a Stevie....the 2nd girl is going to feel like she should have been a boy :(

    I love Stephanie.

    I also like Adeline.

  • I love Adeline, especially with the nickname Addy.  Sorry but I really dislike Stevie.  It does sound like you were hoping for a boy and wound up with a girl instead.
  • I don't like Stevie for a first name. What about middle?

Me three! Sophia is so feminine and Stevie is so tomboyish imo. I LOVE the name Addalyn, but would spell it either with one n. Good luck!

  • I don't like Stevie at all, especially for a girl, but that's just my opinion- I like that it means something to you though.  Personally, I don't think it matters what the rest of your family wants to name the baby cause it's not theirs!  Especially since this is your last baby!  So my vote is definitely for Addelyn.  I would go w/ two N's though, or I think you might get AddeLINE prounounciation instead of AddeLYNN.  I don't think the D's matter much, but I think it looks prettier w/ just one ;)  I would definitely go w/ an E in the middle though, or your kid might get some teasing about "add a line" lol

  • I like Stevie and Addelyn.  I'd use the middle name to soften/girly it up a bit like PPs have said.  I like Stevie Marie. :)  I do think Addelyn "goes" better with Sophia but I'm not big on that rule.
