2nd Trimester

Anyone suffering from DH being a pregnancy cop??

So yesterday, the doctor told me "try and drink more water."  DH SHOVED water down my throat all night last night and today while he was home.  He's saying things like, "you can go take a bath after one more glass of water."  Alright DAD.

I'm glad that he wants to take care of me and that he wants me to be healthy, but COME ON!

Re: Anyone suffering from DH being a pregnancy cop??

  • I call DH the food police! Sometimes I wish I didn't share all the pregnancy information with him. I get the "you shouldn't eat that lunch meat or ghat hot dog" or "I don't think you should drink that coke". Sometimes I feel like a closet eater because I sneak stuff when he isn't around!

  • Mine isn't THAT bad... I don't think? But he does get like that...

My doc. told me I had to gain weight, so he likes to remind me of CARBS.

Then he won't let me do anything, I'll get up out of bed, and he'll be like "Lay down, what do you need?!"   It's like... To pee, would you like to hold my hand?? And anytime I'm cooking, cleaning etc. he will come in and tell me to stop and try and take over...

I finally told him, I'm NOT disabled, please stop treating me like I am.

  • Oh yeah mine is the same..I bought him a pregnancy book for guys with my first pg, and I think the only thing he remembers from it is no sushi and no lunch meat, but he reminds me of that every time I want a sandwich. He's always pushing the water and tells me I should gain 40 lbs at least (not sure why he thinks this!)

  • my DH doesn't let me buy any tuna..even though he heard the doctor said that it was ok to have it once a week.. I love tuna.. and every time that I try to get some at the store he takes it out the cart Sad

  • My DH has been horrible. And it makes me sooo mad because I used to be a horrible eater. Lunch was a 44 oz Diet Coke and a pizza stick or Cheetos. And I have given up all caffeine and have been eating so much better and he is on my case all the time. And what has he done since I've been pg, gain weight. Probably more than I have. Maybe he should be watching what he is eating instead of what I am.
  • haha Im in the same boat..SO is the water POLICE....lol

  • He doesn't think I should drive during the winter - just in case.

I shouldn't walk on the ice - just in case. (We live in Iowa, it's all ice!)

I shouldn't carry anything - just in case.

I shouldn't lean on anything - it could 'dent' the baby.

The dog shouldn't lay on my lap - she could kick the baby.

I need to drink more.. the list goes on and on.

It's sweet that he cares, but he's educated enough to know that none of what he's saying is logical.

Apparently I've been conspiring with the doctors and the pregnancy book writers to trick him into letting me do all kinds of dangerous things. Stick out tongue

  • oh man, mine is the worst!

'are you sure you can eat that'

'did you take your vitamin' (although not going to lie i kind of suck at remembering that)

oh but the worst worst worst is that he fights with me that we can't use lube (ky) during sex. i finally found the page in each of the 3 books i have that says its ok and put them out for him one night. enough was enough!

  • mine is totally the food police!!!

I'm not allowed to eat crab rangoon because its fried and unhealthy. no fried food. no canned food because its less healthy. (he's in NY. I'm having canned soup! haha!)

strangely he brought me home a dozen donuts last week (that I didn't ask for and didn't want). I'm not sure what makes donuts better than crab rangoon?

  • hahaha, my DH is the same way! He gets really mad at me if I decide to just have a light dinner instead of a huge plate of food. He doesn't understand that I'm not as hungry in the evening time. He thinks I should be guzzling large glasses of milk and water and putting on more weight. I guess it makes our hubbies feel like they're part of our ordeal, like they're contributing I guess!
  • I used to get a lot of "Are you sure you can eat that?" and since my response was always "Would I pick it up and put it on my plate if I was not supposed to eat it?" he has laid off.

I wish he'd be the water police, I need help remembering to drink more.

It also helped that he was there when my doctor said "I don't really care what you eat. Just watch out for big game fish and shellfish. Be smart"

  • DH goes to every appointment with me and threatens to "narc" me out if i don't spill all my symptoms that worry him (low bp and dizziness mostly). Not that I wouldn't tell the md about that, but I kinda feel like my mom is sitting next to me!
