Whenever I have the baby monitor while DS is sleeping or napping, I notice I'm always rushing to get things done and jumping at every little noise thinking my "free time" is over. Today, all I was doing is going through some coupons, which I could do after DS wakes up too. But I was trying to rush-rush-rush to get finished. I'm almost on tip-toe even though I'm on the other side of the house.
Does anyone else still do this? I wonder if it's just the static of the monitor that triggers it.
Re: The baby monitor puts me on edge
Yes.
My DH hates it, because I always have the baby monitors (both of them) up almost as loud as they go. I have no idea why, but I guess I'm scared I won't hear them if not. I'm a little paranoid

I say turn it off!!! Unless your house is huuuuge (or you're taking a shower, working outside etc) you will probably hear your dc. We mainly leave ours off (even at night) bc I hear her if she's crying. But I was the same way, jumping at every noise etc.
When I *do* turn it on at night, I keep the volume OFF... it lights up if she's making noise. Not sure if yours does that or not.
And my dd is upstairs (our master is down.)
Wow! I'm impressed that you can hear her crying from a different level of your house. My DS is right across the hall from us, but we keep both doors closed, and I have trouble hearing him when he wakes up. Granted he doesn't usually wake up screaming, he just plays and talks, but I still can't imagine being on a different level and not having the monitor on.
