3rd Trimester

For those of you who have had wine...

Have you ordered a glass in public? Did you get any sort of reaction/comments from people?

Re: For those of you who have had wine...

  • I don't drink wine (apart from being pregnant, I'm also 20) but I have been offered it recently in restaurants- so apparently the waiters wouldn't have thought anything wrong with it.

  • DH and I went to dinner the other night and I ordered a glass of Merlot. No wierd looks or comments.
  • Ha! I haven't with this pregnancy, but I did with my son late in my third trimester at an Italian restaurant. I was so embarrassed I was cowering in the booth as I sipped it. But no, I don't think I even got a glance. Or at least I didn't notice anyone looking at me. Tongue Tied This time around when I treat myself to a glass, I do it in the privacy of my own home.Smile
  • I had a 1/4 of a glass while at a restaurant for a friends b-day.  I didn't order it myself...the b-day girl had but was too hung-over to drink it.  So she passed it down to me with a smile and a wink!  She had caught me looking at the wine list with sadness. :-)  Nobody in our group thought anything of it and there were 20 of us.  But they knew that I hadn't had any before that and that it was really only a few sips.

It did give me bad acid reflux though, so that was my first and last experience with wine while preggo!

  • I've ordered a glass at a restaurant/bar that often the bartender opens a bottle and periodically refills it while you're talking to your friends.  I make sure all the bartenders know to NOT refill my glass, and that I'm sipping that set amount for the night, but to keep the water coming! The only ones that really make a comment seem to be the men, but just in a joking manner like "What the heck are you doing!?" Then the women usually chime in and say tell their stories about how their doctors told them an occasional glass was fine blah blah blah.  So if you're gonna have one - enjoy it! Don't be paranoid the whole time about what people are thinking or saying because that defeats the relaxation purpose of sippin the vino!

  • DH order me a mimosa one morning.  My belly was hid by the table, but I was in paranoid mode about it.  Other wise I've had a glass of wine with DH's family dinner and sips of DHs beer or cocktail at restaurants.   But most of my wine drinking is at home.  I have a glass of red maybe twice a month and some non-alcoholic white wine 2-3 times a month.

  • I figure I've held out this long I can just wait until LO is born, but I rreeeaallly want a glass!  If I end up with an induction, DH and I are going to go out for a nice dinner the night before and I'd love to have a glass.

Just not sure what kind of looks I am going to get for drinking in public while pg.

  • I had one last week and it actually upset my stomach! SO wasn't expecting that since I used to throw back bottles in one night.  Oh well, a couple more months wont kill me or I may even try again if I'm out for a nice dinner.  Who cares what other people think! Everyone's always going to have an opinion, and you get to have one too.
  • I would just prepare yourself for looks and comments.  A couple of years ago when i was pregnant with my daughter, my husband and I were on a babymoon and a ordered a cup of coffee with breakfast.  The waitress looked down at my stomach, back up at my face and said, "Decaf?"  I was livid.
  • We went out to dinner with friends to celebrate with them (she had just gotten her PhD!). They had brought a bottle of champagne with them so the waiter brought us four glasses.  The only thing he did was hesitated a little over my glass until I looked up and said "just a little".  He said, "Oh ok, I wasn't sure." I made a point not to look around the room as I was sure I'd be getting some sort of judgmental glares but I didn't care - it was damn good champagne and I was only having like a half a flute!
  • I had a half glass of wine about once a week starting in second tri, but I never ordered one in public. Honestly, it just wasn't worth dealing with potential judgy-ness to me. I just sipped off DH's wine or beer when we were out if I wanted a bit.

Have you had any at home? I found that wine just didn't taste that great pregnant and it made my heartburn worse.

You will LOVE it once LO is out, though!

  • I've been offered the wine menu in a restaurant. The only time I tried to order wine I got a weird look and said "Just kidding! I'm pregnant" to try to play it off.
  • I've only had it at home, because I would just NOT want to deal with people possibly looking at me like I'm the devil for having a few sips of wine..

  • I just enjoyed my first wine spritzer at home last week (half glass wine, half ginger ale).  I felt so guilty, don't ask me why - bu tI have to admit it was delicious and really helped me unwind a bit since I have been super stressed at work.  I don't think I'd order one in public, just not worth the judgemental stares and possible comments from rude strangers - but to each their own!
  • i haven't ordered any in a resteraunt during this pg'cy, but with my son i did.  never got a strange look.  i even got a really pushy waitress asking me multiple times if i was sure i didn't want to order anything off the drink menu.  i didn't want any at the time, but found it funny because i was OBVIOUSLY very pg.
  • I ordered a glass for v-day the last time I was pregnant and DH and I went out for dinner. We had a pretty private table so I don't htink there were many people who even noticed but our waitress didn't even bat an eye.

No, I haven't had any at all. I was keeping away because I've had so many drugs pumped through me that I chose to stay way from anything I had control over.

Maybe it sounds silly but it made me feel better.
