thoughts on belly casting kits?

I'm not sure what to think of these.. I think the idea is cool.. but then, where to put it after the baby outgrows the nursery? lol anywho.. this website is pretty neat.. From what I gather, you do the mold of your belly at home and you can send it in to be cast in fiberglass.. and they can also decorate it for you, too! (no idea what that part costs) I'm just not sure how you ship it to them without it breaking in a million pieces! hmmmm....

  • i think it will be a dust collector and waste of space, personally.  photographs of the belly work just fine for me.

  • I love them.  Though I've never seen the fiberglass option, just the plaster.  Heck, I'd hang it in my living room, but I'm weird like that. lol

Yah - I thought the fiberglass option was pretty neat.. and they have some really pretty ways to decorate them! lol about the living room.. I don't think my DH would go for that.. but I guess I could always put it in our bedroom :-)

lol - We already have a painting in the living room that DH calls "the framed mold pic" (It's a woodsy watercolor) so I don't think he'd be surprised to see a giant belly hanging there either.

  • ok so evidently fiberglass is not cheap, lol

I sent an email asking about cost and this is what they said:

The cost to have your plaster belly fiberglassed is $350.00

I still don't get how you ship the plaster one to them without it breaking! my friend did one in plaster and it broke in a million pieces during a move...

  • I think it is a neat idea.  But wth do you do with it?  Why do I need a lifesize belly?  Maybe I can try it on when I am bsc or miss the kicking.  ;o)

  • One of the midwives at the practice who delivered DS had a cast done and she has it hanging on her wall in her office.  I think she just used the stuff that they use to do casts though and got wrapped like a mummy and then I guess got it cut off in the back.  I think it looks pretty cool but agree that I'm not sure what I'd do with it after the kid outgrew the nursery.  Can you imagine having that hanging up when your kid graduates from high school or gets married?  Kinda a creepy thought to me.
