Recommend Toys for our 0-3 Month Olds

We really tried to keep toys as gifts to DD to a minimum (instead she has a great book collection started) but now I'm bored with the few we have during play time, so can only imagine she is too.  What do your LO's like at this age?  TIA

Re: Recommend Toys for our 0-3 Month Olds

  • DS loves lamaze toys, i open and close their parts and let him feel them, i also hang them from his activity mat and he loves to swat at them.

he also really likes his wrist rattles, and to lay under his mobile

  • I was totally surprised, but he LOVES his playmat.  My mother did all this research and got him this one: https://www.amazon.com/Skip-Hop-307000-Activity-Mat/dp/B00284AHQ8  for Christmas.  He actually plays with it already! She was all apologetic b/c we were mostly going for wooden toys, but I told her to get him whatever she wanted.  She read a ton of reviews and settled on this one.

As he's randomly kicking it moves the toys around and he talks and coos to them.  Plus we have reconfigured it to help with his neck movement (we are working on looking to the left).  We have to take the pig part with us where ever we go.  And it has a tummy time pillow and activites.

Damn, I sound like a infomercial.  I was just so amazed that a baby as young as mine could enjoy a toy so much.  Probably, any playmat is the same, but I like this one especially.

  • Our LO's favorite thing is the Fish that are on her swing mobile. She loves talking to them! We have wrist and foot rattles, but she doesn't notice them yet. She's really just started looking at toys, so we think she'll warm up to some more soon.
  • I used our bouncer a lot at that age. It was a very simple bouncer without all the bells and whistles some of them have now. I was able to hang different dangle toys from the arch. That's what I would recommend, things that can hang in front of her face. They can learn to reach, and focus on different objects. An activity mat with an arch might be a good choice too.
  • Oh I totally forgot!  If you not really a toy person you might like these: https://www.weegallery.com/artcards.html

He loves to stare at these when he's in his quiet awake stage.  Plus We think they are cool enough to possibly frame when he is done.

Very cool!  DD loves her b/w books.  Oh we're toy people, was just trying to keep the number of toys she has reasonable (have seen the overwhelming toy boxes of some friends) and maybe that wasn't reasonable :)  thanks for the mat rec!

    Colton loves his Mister Bubbles!

  • The girls loved their playmat.  We had this one and my mom just ordered a new one for DS.  (It was getting ratty and some of the toys are going missing.)  I think the girls were "playing" on it by maybe 2 or 3 weeks old.  They loved the mirror and the music the best, but would talk to the toys hanging too.
  • My daughter loves her playmat, vibrating chair, and swing.  Her favorite toy right now is Mallory the Monkey.

  • the leapfrog caterpillar...its a life savor!
  • I totally agree about keeping it somewhat reasonable.  When he gets older we'll learn about donating!

I want him to have toys he likes, but if I can get the added benefit of some mental stimulation for him and some aesthetic value for me... Why not? :)

  • Charlie likes his Lamaze Moose, especially the crinkly feet.   He also has a soft, squishy Baby Snoopy that he hugs and tosses around in his bassinet when he's kind of sleepy.  So far, the Seahorse is getting a luke warm reception, but I think he likes the music.  Just got that last week, so he may get more into it later.

I also highly recommend getting some links (various brands are out there) so that you can hang toys within reach of their hands, mouth, etc.  Nothing frustrated him more than seeing something cool hanging above him and not being able to grab at it!  He actually loves to just play with the links themselves!
