Wondering what names have you run across ( from people you know, names you've read, etc.) that have a nickname that is not super-obvious when looking at the first name?
For me, John/Jack comes to mind. I also have a great-great-uncle Russell who went by Rex.
Re: non-obvious nicknames
DH started calling Sophia "chipmunk" when she was very tiny b.c she made these little squeaky noises like a chipmunk. well, it stuck and both DH and I call her "chip" or more often "munk", "munky" or "the munk".
I love it!
she calls herself Phia.
which I also love!
I also used to work with a nurse who went by Eva but her full name was Minerva.
Some of these are obvious because they're popular, but if you weren't used to them, you couldn't tell by the sounds.
