DH's mom and sister are throwing him a surprise birthday party next weekend. i'm only in charge of cakes, so i'm wanting to do something extra for the party to contribute. i was thinking how cool it would be to have some kind of little guestbook as a memento from the day where all of his family and friends wrote little notes. now i just need help figuring out how to do it.
i was thinking a half size piece of paper for each guest, there are about 40 adults and some kiddos. i can put out cups with some markers and pens, ask people to write a sweet note, funny story, tell how they met david, whatever. i just want it to look cool once it's put together.
wow me with your super creative ideas, and pictures if anyone did a cool wedding guestbook i can copy.
Re: NBR: Calling all scrapbookers and creative nesties
You could also take pictures or polaroids of each guest (or each guest with David) and add that to their page later. I was also going to suggest doing a photobook online with some blank pages people could also sign, but I don't think you could get it by next weekend.
I was at Michaels yesterday and in their clearance bins they had tons of stuff for a mini scrapbook.. I believe they were 6x6 or close too.. from albums to stickers, fun paper, embellishments etc.
my sister did a cool wedding guest book - she had a photo booth and then had people sign the page with their strip of photos. The end result was very cute - maybe you could re-create a photo booth with a throw-away polaroid?
She used a Kolo album that tied with a ribbon (you should be able to get them at Archiver's) - she was able to untie the pages so that multiple people could write on them at a time, and then tie it back together again at the end of the night.
Just make sure you use an acid-free adhesive and pens so that it will last and not start to age/deteriorate quickly (lots to choose from at JoAnn's - I can send coupons if you need them). Just ask maevetoo about my stance on this (the only prompt she will need is baby book and glue stick).
Also Abbysmom has a template for a baby shower guest book with specific questions and writing and drawing prompts - maybe you could modify it to make it david-specific?
I have a Bind-It-All that I use to make small wire-bound books (with plastic covers so the paper doesn't get worn out/torn up). For showers I've hosted in the past (baby or wedding), I make a card for each guest with the honoree's name going vertically down the page.. then each guest writes a piece advice for each letter. Does that make sense? You could easily do David's name and have them write funny descriptions or memories or anything for each letter. Or just leave the cards blank and let people write whatever they want.
I could show you how to use the machine and let you borrow it.. or just make you the cards and meet up with you after the party to bind them all together?
Let me know.

For my Grandmother's 70th birthday we sent everyone a 6X6 piece of paper with the invites and told them to send it back with their RSVP. They were supposed to write an anecdote and send in a picture along with it. Obviously some people followed directions better than others, but the result was cute. I assembled the book so that it would "flow" and because I'm a control freak.
I also love the idea of taking everyone's picture at the party.
