Anyone else self-employed in CA?

CA has state disability in addition to FMLA that we're looking into - 4 wks pre-birth and 6 weeks post.  If you're self-employed, you need to opt into elective disability coverage at least 6 months before you plan on filing - which means I need to have it done yesterday.

Has anyone done this?  I've found some of the forms I need to file, but I'm getting panicky...advice or help?

    I'm not self employed and I'm not sure if there is a minimum length of time you need to pay into the disability.  With that said, I would get the paperwork done and turned in ASAP.  If there is a 6 month minimum then you may have to go a few days or weeks without pay before the disability pay kicks in.  But that's better then getting nothing, right?
