So I was talking to my OB last night about when she would induce if I went past 40 weeks. She said that insurance companies are getting really strict in the last year and that she will induce one week past your due date, but no sooner. She said that most insurance companies won't cover the cost if you go any earlier unless of course there is a medical need for it. I guess I didn't realize this....did any of you know this? Maybe I'm just in the dark thinking it woudn't be a big deal if she induced me a couple days after my due date.
Re: Induction and Insurance..did you know about this?
I knew about this. I was told when I asked the policy for inductions.
ditto; at a wk overdue the concern is losing amniotic fluid
Piper, 4/10/10
Connor, 3/16/15
Morgan, EDD 9/22/16
This exactly
Agreed. I'd also like to see similar policies for elective c-sections and non-medical circumcision, but I'm a wacko. I'll admit it.
Many, if not most, insurance companies no longer cover it.
In some cases I can see where this is not necessary but in cases like my own, I am most likely going through an induction. I'm totally all about doing what is natural but my dr. doesn't want to take the chance of me going to full term after we lost our daughter at 39.5 wks last time. The dr;s can't figure out what happened, but we know she lost blood and it's possible I had an infection. I knew something was wrong but my jackass dr would not do an induction last time (most likely thanks to the insurance co.) Also, my lovely insurance company who was getting 300$ a month out of my pocket would not cover any expense do determine why this happened to me. - something that has racked my brain for the last 2 yrs. My loss was considered a complication and no I do not think they are "human" at all for this reason.
Also, they would not cover this pregnancy- even though it was never actually determined what happened. So instead I had to go on medicaid. which thankfully is covering everything....a miracle.
If you ask me, insurance companies in this country SUCK.
ugh. I hate that some OBs do that. Many do it with c/s, too. If its not medical, don't lie about it. JMO.
I am so sorry you had to go through that. How terrible! And, then to have issues with insurance for this pregnancy... T&P for you and your LO.
