Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Is labor more or less frightening the second time around?

(No, I'm not KTFU)

I went into my L&D with an "I can totally rock this out" attitude.  And, IMHO, I did "rock it out."  I had a very nice, hippie-like L&D (complications later sucked hardcore, but the actual L&D was fine).

Yesterday I was thinking about being KU again and I had this sudden feeling of "OMG - Labor!!!!" and kinda panicked.  Now that I know what's coming, I feel like I'll be MORE nervous.

2nd time moms, am I right?  Is it freakier the second time around?!

  • I had 27 hours of bad back labor with no pain meds.  It was bad enough to make me not want more kids. lol

I was definitely calm about the whole thing going into the hospital the first time though.

  • For the love of all that is holy, I hope it is better the second time around. The first time around was pure hell for me and I know that with #2 I will be sick to my stomach with anxiety when it comes close to the end.

  • I'm not KU, nor will I ever be most likely but thinking about it I realize that my "rock this out" attitude (yes I had one going in too) would not make a reappearance. Back labor kicked my ass (literally). I would definitely be more nervous the second time around if that was to ever happen.

  • For me it was scarier the second time around.  Sure I knew what to expect but it was so long ago it was like it was the first time all over again.

  • We would have a c/s so I think I would do better knowing the plan instead of waiting and being worried. Finn had late heart rate drops so we were freaked out.
  • Second time around I was praying I would need a c/s (so dumb, I know...the pain from that is likely much worse) because labor with DD was so bad.  So I'd say more frightening because I knew it could be bad.  Then, naturally, labor with DS was crazy easy and (due to a hot spot) the epi was so strong I couldn't feel him come out at all.
  • it was 1000000 x easier this time for me. I knew what to expact (kinda) and I had already done it before and survived so I knew I could do it again

in all honesty, I was actually kind of excited to do it again

Thanks Hula!  I am a little freaked, but oh well! Big Smile

  • The first time around, I didn't know what to expect, how my body would handle it, etc.  I was in labor throughout the day before having DD.  The second time around, I woke up, knew I was having contractions, and went on getting ready to go without being scared or frightened or anything.  I handled the pain SO MUCH BETTER the second time around.  Hopefully #3 will be just as good!
  • I would be less nervous. But I was one of the "lucky" ones who had a very easy and very uncomplicated vaginal birth.
