I think I will be forced to pt dd or go with disposables....

Our co-op management just sent us a letter telling me to stop putting "soiled diapers" in the washing machine. Um, I already rinse off the solids. If they were not dirty I would not need to wash them, no?

We're not allowed to have our own machine in our apartment. I don't think dd is ready to PT or that dh wants to EC, so it looks like I will have to go with disposables or take my diapers someplace else to wash them in a machine (like outside laundromat) or wash everything by hand.

What to do? Should I try to EC and handwash everything? Ugh.

  • That totally sucks!  So what do they do for soiled clothing?  If your child has an accident or gets sick do you have to throw out the clothes?

I think handwashing would be a total pain.  I would probably try to EC and wash whatever I didn't catch at the laundrymat.

  • So I called the management company and they told me that if I would like to make a case that I should do so in writing. So we went over there and I wrote a reply stating that I have been doing this (outlining my wash routine of rinsing off all solids etc.) and will continue to do so.

I also wrote that dd's rashes mean that cloth diapering is a medical issue for us, and if they would prohibit us from washing her diapers  in the machines then I'd seek compensation for it to be done outside (meaning for them to either pay for a diaper service, or pay for me to use an outside laundromat.)

They will take it up at the next board meeting. I like my building and don't want to make a big deal that will make neighbors angry, but I've been doing this since she was born and suddenly it's a problem?

  • Keep us posted. I really don't understand what the difference is between washing diapers and washing other soiled clothing. Children have accidents!
