Medela Freestyle vs. Pump in Style

I'm debating if it's worth getting the Freestyle over the Pump in Style.  I could care less about the hands free option but the weight of the freestyle is a huge plus.  We are considering relocating so we'll likely be taking a few scouting/house hunting trips in the next few months which will involve flying.  Is it worth spending the extra $$$ to get a light weight pump that's easy to travel with?

    I chose the Freestyle because I think it would be much easier to manage at work, since it doesn't need to be plugged in.  Weight was also in it's favor.

    I may be wrong but it seems that both have rechargeable batteries for when you can't plug in. I see that the Freestyle weighs about 5 lbs total but couldn't find a weight for the PISA. How much does it weigh? I am trying to make the same decision between the two. Where did you find the best prices?

    I have both ( a friend loaned me the PIS, I bought the freestyle).  The freestyle is much smaller and doesn't need the carrying bag so you can carry it in whatever.  The PIS seems to be built into the bag and is quite a bit bulkier - but still totally manageable. 

    I'm going to use the freestyle anyway b/c you can't share Medela pumps, but if you could, the PIS would have been just fine for traveling IMO.

    No, I think the PIS uses 10 AA batteries.

    I got the Freestyle for work purposes.  If you go with it, use the 20% BRU coupon!  I also added it to my registry (I was exchanging the Pump in Style for the Freestyle) so I also got the completion discount ... that made it cheaper than the full price Pump in Style!

    I've chosen the FreeStyle over the PISA for the same reason...portability.  I travel a lot of work and need something that can go IN my carry-on not be the carry-on (which the PISA would be).  For me, it's worth the money.

    I have a 4.5 yr old PIS Advance that I love.  It still works great and I've used it for a year with each of my 2 kids.  It takes AA batteries in the battery pack but it's rare that I was pumping someplace w/o an outlet (althought the car was one of those places- you can buy a car adapter though).  Anyway, the pump itself is removable from the bag and I traveled with it this way a lot.  It makes it a lot less bulky and heavy. 

    If you work and are planning to nurse for 6+ months I think it would be worth the splurge for the freestyle.  You would probably use the hands free option way more then you would think.  My sister has a freestyle.  She worked full-time and nursed her DD for a year.  She would say it was worth every penny.

    Good to know about the batteries. I hope to BF for a year and so a year's worth of batteries could easily make the PISA not much of a savings. I also will be lugging my usual gear to and from work (laptop, etc.) so the savings in weight and space would be totally worth it. Thanks for the info and good question OP!
