steriod shots vs amnio

So I have to have a scheduled C-Section at 36 weeks since I cannot go into labor due to having prior surgeries on my uterus. The OB let me know that we will either get steroid shots or do an amnio to see if the girls lungs are healthy around 35 weeks. I know that a lot of you have had the shots but have any of you had an amnio done? Did your dr. have a preference over one way? Did you even get a choice?

    I have an amnio scheduled at 36 weeks.  But I also asked about steroid shots as a "why not" kind of thing and got those, too.  But the original plan was an amnio at 36 weeks.

    After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

    I would request you get them for sure. I received my steriod shots this week and dr. will schedule a c/s at 36w3d if I don't go on my own before then. I would not want to do an amnio, especially at 36 weeks - sinc e the chance their lungs are ready is highly probable at that point, esp. w/ prior steriods. Is the reason for an amnio that your Dr. is going to let you go past 36 weeks and would try to stop labor at 36wks if they weren't mature? Maybe I should ask about that at my next appt....

    I do not see the point in doing the amnio I think you should just do the steroid shots.

    i agree... if it's a health risk for you to stay pg any longer than that - then why even do the amnio?  I'd want the shots.

    Griffin was born at 36w2d and was fine --- I had the steriod shots at 32w with him.  They induced me and doing an amnio was not even brought up--- I was going through my 4th round of kidney stones and my BP was getting higher - they would have probably induced at 37w but b/c of the kidney stones they did it at 36w2d to get me out of my misery- the doc was confident Griffin would be fine- and he was.

    My Dr's theory on an amnio was, if the babies are at risk by staying in, they need to come out regardless of if their lungs are mature. So in my case, the benefit of them coming out is outweighing the risk of immature lungs.

    I got the steroid shots at 31ish weeks.?
