I need your advice ladies. My DS is almost 5 mos. old, he has been waking up for the last two weeks or so in the middle of the night, SOAKING wet! Like, soaked through to the sheets. I am not sure what to do about this. He wears homemade fitteds made of flannel. They have been recently stripped, and I am 99% certain that they aren't repelling. We use his old orange edge pf's as doublers, with Thirties DUO covers on top.
Last night out of desperation I used one of the pairs plastic pants that some well-meaning but ignorant person bought us. I hate them, but they kept his clothes and sheets dry. But he still woke up in the middle of the night with his diaper soaking wet.
Would fleece liners help him feel dryer, and thus sleep longer? Or do you have some other suggestion.
I am ordering the size 2 Duo's this week, because he is almost out of the size one's, but I'm thinking about also getting some different diapers to try if you have any suggestions.
Re: Help with CDing overnight.
If he is soaked through to the sheets, and they aren't repelling, the covers could just be too small (either leg issues, rise issues, or too small around the waist... just depends on how your DC grows). We love the imsie vimsie covers if you want to try something new.
But since he's waking up even w/ the plastic pants, you might want to try fleece liners. They've have helped us in the past, so I'd give those a try (we just cut a piece of fleece and place it in... no sewing or anything). If that doesn't help, it could be something else like teething or a growth spurt where he isn't sleeping soundly and the wet diaper is just waking him up further. Goodluck!
The diapers may not be absorbent enough. I have before used a hemp insert between the diaper and the cover to catch the overflow and that helps a lot and helps the cover not overload and leak.
Ditto the fleece liners - we made ours from a cheap fleece blanket she got as a shower gift that tore. We cut with regular scissors (outside - made a lot of fluff/shedding) and we slip them in the diaper every evening. Good luck!
