Two Under 2

Carseat placement? with 2

Where do you put your 2 carseats?  One on each side?  I'm guessing it is not considered "safe" to attach 2 seats to the same lower latch nor would they fit one on one side and one in the middle?  I am concerned....because if I remember correctly, our infant seat on the base doesn't fit behind the front seats in DH's Jeep and sit at the "safe" angle.  And DS1 doesn't like his feet hitting the seat in front of him.  :(

Re: Carseat placement? with 2

  • I have a Saturn Ion so our only choice with the seats we have (Snugride and Boulevard) is to put one on each side. Baby behind driver facing rear, toddler behind passenger (now facing foward) as I like to be able to hand her things etc.
  • Loading the player...
  • We'll be putting one on each side. While I could have our infant seat in the middle DD likes to drop her cup when she's done with it (as well as everything else she's done with) and I don't want her dropping things on her baby brother.

  • I have one on each side RFing.  DD is beind the driver and DS is behind the passenger.
  • Newborn will be behind the driver & DS will be behind the passenger. They wouldn't fit right next to each other.
  • I've got newborn in middle on latch and 14 month old (still rear facing) behind passenger seat attached with seat belt.  I have a Durango.
  • We'll have one on each side.  I have DS on the side now as well, because it's the safest position in my Sequoia.  I also don't want DS sitting right beside a newborn, because I don't totally trust him not to try to shove a Goldfish into her mouth or otherwise injure her while I'm trying to drive!

No, you definitely don't want to share a latch.

  • We have the older one behind the driver and #2 behind the passenger RF.  That is what the police recommended.  Even though the margin is slim, statistically there is a greater chance of an accident occurring on the driver's side, so you want the child that could absorb more of an impact there

We tried DD in the middle for one half of a car trip.  FAIL - DS was stealing her blanket and giving her snacks

  • We have a Mazda 3 hatchback and we will be doing the infant seat behind the passenger side and the convertible carseat for DS behind the driver. We have to do it that way because DH cannot sit in front of the infant seat (he is too tall) and he usually drives, or at least is more likely to do so at first. The convertible car seat will have to be front facing at that point for DH to sit in front of it (DS will be 21 months old at that point).

We have also discussed getting a bigger car but we will have to see how the $$ situation goes this year.

  • We'll probably put DS behind drivers seat and newborn behind passenger.

And no, you cannot attach two LATCH systems to the same point in the car. Its not safe nor will it work. I can't imagine even being able to get two on to one single point. But it does say in my car's manual that you cannot do that.

  • I drive a Yukon with captain's chairs, so right now DS is behind me, but when LO comes, he's going ff behind passenger side (so I can reach him) and LO will go behind me on driver's side.
  • i have my twins on the middle bench of my minivan and my older DS on the back bench.
  • My toddler is behind the passeger seat and my infant behind the driver.
