I don't usually sleep the whole night on my back, but usually a good portion of it. Is this bad? I've heard that when it gets uncomfortable to stop, but it's still not uncomfortable. Just wondering if this is ok?
I was fine on my back up until this past week or two! Trust me your body will DEFINITELY tell you when it is no longer ok because it will plain hurt to do. Enjoy it while you still can!
The reason that you're not supposed to is because there is a artery that the uterus presses on when you lie on your back. It can cause less blood circulation to the baby. I am guilty of this also. I always wake up on my back.
My doctor said it is best not too after mid second trimester.. she said if you just put a pillow behind your back, it should keep you from being flat on your back to the extent you would have any problems.... But she said not too worry if I wake up on my back, but just to roll to my side. I still wake up on my back occasionally, and the baby is fine... so just try not too, but dont worry about it.

THIS! I heard this also! I can't help it. I love sleeping on my back. I try to stay on my left side mostly.

Yes, this is the reason. But trust your body to let you know if you are blocking blood circulation- your body will let you know!
I slept on my back through my entire pregnancy with DS and am again now
Yeah, your body will most likely let you know if you're doing anything to hurt yourself or the baby.
I still end up on my back and even partially on my stomach at times just because my hips get uncomfortable. I'm pretty sure I still slept on my back occasionally at the end of my first pregnancy, too.

My doctor said that as long as I was comfortable to go ahead and sleep however I wanted. I sleep sort of on my stomach, but cocked to the side (it's hard to explain)...it's comfortable to me and when it isn't I'll stop.
Do what is comfortale, your body will tell you when to stop.
Your body will tell you when you shouldn't. I always start out on my side but often wake up on my back. When I wake up I just roll back onto my side and can fall back asleep usually. The baby is doing fine so I am not worried!

Like a pp said, I too end up on my back sometimes when my hips hurt. The only problem then is that I snore really bad now if I am on my back (enough to actually wake myself up), so I try to stay on my side if I can help it!!
There is that artery that can be squished if you sleep on your back, but the biggest risk is that it might make you have a bit higher blood pressure. My doctor said it was fine and I still wake up on my back. If it gets uncomfortable, I wake up....
