What are the best diapers?

I was planning to buy Pampers Swaddlers for Newborns because they got good reviews in a book I read.

What diapers did you find worked the best for you?

Re: What are the best diapers?

  • Wouldn't know... no kid yet.

  • I like pampers swaddlers for newborns. By the time baby hits diaper size 2 though, I like huggies snug n dry.
  • I found pampers and huggies to be about the same;  as DD got older I used the huggies overnites (still do).  She's in a size 5 now and I'm using the BRU brand and LOVE them--and you can't beat when they go on sale, they're 2 boxes for $35.

  • Honestly, its going to be different for every child. Mason did really well with Pampers NB, then terrible with size 1 so we used Huggies size 1, then back to pampers 2 and 3. Your just going to have to go through trial and error, If your baby is long and thin certain diapers will work, if they are short and chubby others will.
  • I honestly think it depends on the baby. Some moms swear by Huggies- I hate them. DS has always been in Pampers, because he constantly leaked out of the Huggies.

Maybe try a few different brands and see what works best for your LO. HTH!

  • Pampers Swaddlers worked for us. I never liked the feel of Huggies diapers.

After DD1 outgrew the biggest size Swaddlers, we tried Cruisers, but they gave her a rash, so we switched to Luvs and had good luck with them.

  • I have bought the Up and Up brand from Target...I baby sat for a baby and this is what her parents used...they are amazing! I couldnt tell the difference between the Huggies and the off brand...
  • oh, and here's a tip....BRU Rewards will give you a free box for every 9 you buy (of either Huggies or Pampers);  They have $5 coupons all the time or buy 2 boxes get a $10 gift card or even a $15 sometimes.  This makes the cost cheaper than at Costco or BJs Warehouse even w/their coupons.  And you can use the namufacturer's coupons on top of the BRU ones.

  • We used Pampers Swaddlers up to size 2-3 and then switched to Pampers Baby Dry.

  • everyone that I have asked as said pampers handsdown. I don't have a baby yet, so I can't say from experience...but I did heed the advice of my friends and stocked up on pampers.  I also bought a few other brands in smaller packages just to try things out.
  • This is our first baby, too.  We bought some Pampers Swaddlers, and received some Huggies.  I figure that's a good start, and we can see what works better between the two brands.  I got multi-pads and sheet savers, too, so hopefully the trial-and-error won't result in tons of extra baby linen washloads!

  • Everyone I know suggested Pampers Swaddlers. We received lots as gifts, and also some Huggies which we'll certainly try. Don't stock up too much in advance with one kind in case they don't work for your LO (or save receipts so you can return/exchange)!

  • swaddlers rocked in the beginning. But we became a Huggies family as soon as DD outgrew the newborn size. Pamper didn't seem to fit right nor did they seem to contain messes the same. Luvs were useless.

In reality, you'll have to test them out yourself. Every baby is different and you'll find that you may like a brand someone else hated (for instance, someone I know HATES huggies and swore by Pampers).

  • DD did best with the Target brand and Luvs.
  • For us it depended on the kid. FOr DD#1, long and very skinny...Huggies supreme worked best at fitting little legs. For DD#2, Pampers swaddlers work best for her chubby little thighs.

I do have to say that regardless of fit, I like pampers swaddlers better because they are softer than huggies (which are more paperlike).

  • We used the Pampers swaddlers, then the Pampers baby dry when DD got bigger.

I've tried other brands and the Target generics from time to time, and none of them have worked/fit her as well, and/or they gave DD a rash. So we always end up back with her in Pampers.

I wish we had better luck with cheaper diapers -- it'd be nice!

  • LOVED Pampers swaddlers.  We tried Huggies and always had leaks or blowouts.

    Great advice, thanks!

Has anyone tried the Costco brand of diapers???  Like/dislike???

BRILLIANT advice. I didn't realize they did that. I thought about buying at BJ's or Costco but why bother if  the coupons come frequently enough? Thanks so much!

  • DD was allergic to Huggies, peed out of pampers, so we went with LUVS. We are going with them this time to because we liked them so much, and they are a little cheaper than the name brands.

  • We used the Huggies ones because Pampers smell something awful.  Once DS fit in his cloth diapers then we made the switch over to those.
  • swaddlers until she was in size 2. Then we tried pampers baby dry and those were great. We moved to pampers cruisers when she was crawling and they were great. When she started walking Luvs. It's been Luvs ever since for her. Never a leak. I tried Luvs, Huggies, White Cloud, Up & Up, and the especially baby brand from BRU and none have been as good for my DD (no leaks, perfect fit) as the ones I used for the phases listed above. I tried each brand for each phase (crawling, walking, toddler). However, Huggies over nights are my fave for over night protection. I also have tried the new fisher price diapers, they're just ok.

  • I don't have LO's yet but I babysat for my sister's 5 kids when they were all in diapers.  All of them started in NB Pampers and they worked great.  When they got to size 2, the four boys went to Luvs and they were fantastic.  My niece leaked out of the Luvs and Huggies though so it was back to Pampers for her.
  • I like pampers swaddlers
  • Huggies Snug and Dry for my DS.  I thought pampers were too soft and skimpy and they just didn't feel as sturdy to me. but maybe for a girl it is different.
  • Both of my SILs use Huggies after having multiple blowouts and leakage issues with Pampers, so that's what we're going with.  I think part of it is that DH's family is known for their lack of a booty and Huggies just fit better on my 4 nephews' "no butts".  I hope our little girl has a bit of a booty to help hold her diapers up.

  • Swaddlers worked well for us.  DS1 is in Pampers Cruisers (PT because we cloth diaper PT as well).   We tried Costco brand in the beginning and had one blowout after another.  So, we stuck with what worked well for us.

  • Love pampers swaddlers for newborn. Then switch to costco brand (they don't have newborn size, start at 1/2). I have tried all brands and I LOVE the costco Kirkland brand. Already bought some for this baby.
