Infertility

Had my WTF appt today

Guess who's now insulin resistant (IR)?  Me.  I was borderline when I started seeing her in July 2009 & she re-checked it this last beta day.  She's thinking it's an implantation issue due to the IR given my follies responded well to both the Clomid & Follistim & my lining is fine.  She doesn't want to do a lap @ this point because my ute is "textbook".  Ironically, I've lost 24 lbs. since starting to see her (she weighed me).  So I guess losing weight to get healthy = IR. She did say she was proud of me for losing weight @ a healthy pace & to keep up the good work.

At any rate, the plan is to have me take 2000mg of Metformin ER a day & see her in March (about 8 weeks) for a f/u.  Then, we'll do more b/w & see what's up.  If my levels are better & I haven't gotten a miracle BFP we will probably do another couple injectible IUIs.  If not, we break out the big guns: IVF.  So that's the plan & having a plan is a good thing.

  • I hope that Met helps you, and it might help you even further with your weight loss (you might even be one of those amazing PCOS-ers who resume ovulation on their own thanks to Met).  I lost more than 50 lbs. thanks to Met, which from what I gather around these parts is atypical, but it can only help, not hurt.  And, you're absolutely right; having a plan is a great thing.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, and I'm sending you a big hug.

  • I am sorry you got the news you are IR. At least you are losing the weight, that is fantastic. GL with met and I hope it's the trick to help you out so you don't have to do the "big guns".

  • Sounds like a plan. I have been taking 1500 of Met since July. Although it hasn't really helped me lose weight, I have been ovulating on my own. I hope you get a break cycle BFP!!

  • Steph, I hope Met is the answer for you. I think that's what they gave ABC and like within a month she had her BFP. So there is hope! And this is a good plan.

p.s. congrats on the weight loss, that's awesome!!!

  • Congratulations on your weight loss!!  That is awesome!

Glad you have a plan set up, I agree- it's great to have a plan.  It always helps me relax a bit when I have 'back up' plans in place.  I hope the metformin works for you.

I really really hope you get your miracle BFP and you don't end up needing to use your back up plans :-)

    Good luck

  • I have PCOS and am IR too. I'm on 2000 mg of Met and though I had to work up to it i can really see how much it helps my weight loss when I'm on it. I've also heard that the ER version is better than the regular version because it makes you have a more even blood sugar level than the highs and lows of taking one pill at a time (I'm wanting to get on ER soon). Wishing you the best and we are on a break through March too!
  • Yay for a plan!  But, boo for IR.  Hopefully Met will get you back on track too and on your way to a BFP!  GL!

  • How frustrating that losing weight hasn't helped with the IR! Dammit!! I hope the increased met helps, I know how much you love taking it.  Good luck!

  • Yes, having a plan is a wonderful thing. So sorry to hear about the IR though. Hopefully it will improve as you lose weight. And BTW CONGRATS on the weight loss!
