Hello!
I just found out last week that I am pg with twins! The shock has warn off, but I'm still nervous about the whole thing. I bought Dr. Luke's book and I'm kind of freaking out about the weight gain. I am more on the underweight side to start and trying to eat 3500 calories a day (like recommended in the book) is so difficult especially with the nausea and vomiting! I'm drinking 2 Ensure Pluses a day to try to help.
Do any of you ladies have some advice regarding getting more calories in the diet and/or any advice on helping with the morning sickness? I called my Dr. and I'm going to try 2 chewable Flinstone vitamins a day instead of the prenatal vitamin right now. I was a little sick with my first pregnancy, but the vomiting this time has left my throat raw.
Thanks ladies! I look forward to getting to know you guys and spending lots of time on this board!
Re: New and Some Questions
Protein shakes & banana splits helped me put on the lb's.
The best advice I ever got was that first tri was about survival. I couldn't eat veggies or fruit bc the thought of them made me so sick. Eat what you can.
Congrats on your twins!
congrats and welcome!
Lots of 1+ twin moms around here these days!! yay!
I just ate a lot of protein and a lot of dairy- i didn't count calories- just ate as much of those as I could - and anything else that sounded good to me at the time, too. I put on 19lbs by 24w... and 40 lbs by 38w (14 lbs of that was baby - my boys were big... so all the weight gain paid off for sure!)
do what you can - if it's important to you- you will make it work - and your body will do the right things. ensure drinks are great- i couldn't stomach them- but if you can they will help a lot!
Weclome and Congrats!! I ate lots of icecream, and smoothies. During the first tri the only thing I could stand to eat was turkey sandwitches and water. But then my dr. gave me meds to help.
Hi & welcome! I just recently joined the board, also. I'm 8w w/ triplets at the moment (one isn't growing). I am also underweight and discussed my concerns w/ my peri on Monday. He basically said the same thing mentioned above - just to eat what I could, and it didn't matter if it was Taco Bell. The biggest thing was to get calories and stay hydrated.
I've had pretty severe nausea (but no vomiting), and have lost 6 lbs in the last two weeks. My m/s usually hits around noon, so I just try to eat as much as I can before it hits - cereal, juice, yogurt, donuts. Lunch and dinner are nearly impossible for me to get down. One of my nurses also recommended Carnation Instant breakfast packets. I'm gonna try those too. I'm just struggling to find anything that even sounds good at this point. It seems to change daily. I'll eat one thing, then can't touch it again
Good luck to you & looking forward to getting to know you on the board!
ps - have you tried any anti-nausea meds yet? I was taking the unisom/vitamin b6 combo at night, but it wasn't doing much. My peri gave me an Rx for Zofran and it is at least helping to take the edge off.
I haven't tried anything yet. I am nervous it's only going to get worse as I already have felt so crappy for 3 weeks and I was just starting to feel a little nauseus when pg with DS at this time. Hopefully I'm wrong and I stay the same amount of nauseus. I can deal with the nausea, the vomiting is what I can't stand. I'm going to see if going off the prenatal vitamin helps. If not, I may have to try something.
