3rd Trimester

Follow up to headache post earlier

I did call my OB and she said to come in for a BP check.  The first time her nurse took it, it was 130/80 and they waited a few minutes and took it again.  This time it was 104/70.  My OB said just to take 2 tylenol 4 times a day, drink some caffiene, rest and call her if I still have the headache tomorrow morning or if it gets worse or other symptoms develope.  Then she ran out of the room to deliever a baby at the hospital across the street. I feel a bit more relieved now, but still need this headache to go away!

I don't know much about BP. Was the first number really that high???  I'm off to google!

  • My Ob has given me permission to have one Pepsi a day to ward off my Migraines since I cant take the medicine pregnant or breastfeeding. I havent had a single migraine since my BFP and its just wonderful.

  • 120/80 and below is considered "normal".  So, it doesn't seem like your blood pressure was THAT high.  But, if your normal bp is as low as the second reading, the first reading could have been pretty high for you.  Thus, making you feel like your bp was really high.
  • I'm so glad you're ok! I'm dealing with bp issues right now and it is NO FUN!! 130/80 is (at least for me) not high enough to worry about. My Dr. isn't concerned as long as I stay under 140/90 (again though, thats just my situation). My bp was always perfect until around 30 weeks, when it suddenly shot up to 140/90. I'm medicated now and it seems to be under control at least for the time.
  • That exact thing happened to me. Only my bp was 150/98 and my headache was terrible. Nothing helped the pain. I ended up in labor and delivery to get things checked out. Once they got rid of my headache my bp went back to normal (90/50). The high bp was my body's way of reacting to the pain.My doctor told me to keep some coffee or soda in the house and to drink one glass whenever I feel a headache coming on. The caffeine can help but only if you take it early on. Once you have a full blown headache you usually need something stronger to help it go away.

The first number was high but not astronomical. It's on the border of where they get concerned. I wouldn't worry about one singular bp reading. If it continues to stay high then I might be a little worried.
