Baby Names

Some girls names I haven't seen mentioned much

Hey ladies!

I'm new to the site and have been reading a bunch of the baby name posts.  I find it very interesting how a lot of the same names keep coming up over and over again and then there are some names that are lovely IMO, that are rarely mentioned.  Maybe I am very old fashioned or have odd tastes but what about Colleen, Felicia, Rebecca, Rachel, Veronica,  Marisa, Adele, Melissa, Lisa and Christine?

Maybe I'm just stuck in the 80's and the girl's names I grew up with.  What do you think?

Re: Some girls names I haven't seen mentioned much

  • Maybe stuck in the 80's a little bit lol!

I do like some of the names on your list, though.

  • Adele's nice, but the rest are horrendous.
  • I love Marisa, Rachel, and Melissa.

I think you are stuck in the 80s but there's nothing wrong with that!

    agree

  • My name is Rebecca... I don't consider my name horrendous!!! I like Rachel too..
  • If we have a girl, we're most likely naming her Adele. Love that one.

The rest I don't really like at all ...

  • My nieces middle name is Adelle... I think its a great name. I know a lot of Rachels, so that probably wouldn't get my vote. Marisa... as in Marissa or mah-reese-ah? I think marissa or narissa are pretty.. not something i'd choose, but pretty none the less :)

  • DD's middle name is Adelle after my mother.
  • Felicia is my #1 favorite name. It was my great-grandmother's name, and I consider it quite far from horrendous.
  • I like Veronica, Adele, and maybe Christine as a MN, but the others aren't ms.

  • The only one I like from your list is Rebecca (and possibly Adele).

  • I like Colleen and Adele.  The rest are mostly names of people I went through school with.  I was born in 1980...  I'm a big NO on Melissa, my name.  No one can ever spell it right.
  • Mostly a VERY 80's list of names. Not bad, but largely dated.
  • there are plenty of ladies on here who like old fashioned and/or classic names.  i'm more of a classic lady myself :)

from your list, i really like veronica!

Thanks so much for the lovely comment  Confused  Completely unnecessary

  • I love Veronica and Colleen...

I agree that most of these names were popular in the 80's as I had said in my OP.  I feel like those names are less "dated" then some others from the 80's like Shannon or Tracy which to me are VERY dated names.

Regardless, of whether anyone likes the names I listed or not, I think that lots of people are looking for "less popular" names that are still nice.  And of course in 25 years we are going to think how dated names like Isabella and Ava are.

Rebecca, Rachel and Christine are classic names. I know women in their 70s and children with these names. I don't think they are 80s names at all.

I agree with you that Shannon, Tracy (also Jennifer, Jessica, Stacy, Amber, Amanda are very dated).

  • LOVE Veronica!
  • IMO....

    Colleen -- totally 80's

    Felicia -- lovely name

    Rebecca -- classic

    Rachel -- classic

    Veronica -- classic and....smoky

    Marisa -- totally 80's

    Adele -- no association

    Melissa -- totally 80's

    Lisa -- totally 80's

    Christine -- totally 80's

  • I probably wouldn't use any of those names just because the list represents the names of a lot of my good friends (who aren't just "80s" girls, in fact, my friend Veronica is my mom's age and I know a few Rebeccas who go from their 20s to their 50s). But I think most of them are perfectly good names. Rachel is probably my favorite on that list.

  • These names are not my style at all, but I don't think they are bad names, just not names I would use.
  • They are actually more 70s names.  I would definitely say many are better than some trendy names now.  In 20 years, Avery, Taylor, Riley, etc., etc. will all be very dated as this list is and these may be very popular again.
  • In your defense, I like your list, perhaps because I grew up in the 80's too...lol).  I am a fan of nice, NORMAL girls names.  Many of the names I see suggested on this board lately make me want to gag.  They are either too trendy or just too far out there. I think people are so used to trying to pick a name that no one else has ever named their child that they overlook regular names.
  • I like Rebecca and Rachel.

    Thank you!  I totally agree!

There are SO many "normal" names that are vastly underused, a lot of which I don't think are "dated" in any way.  In addition to the ones I already mentioned there's also Helen, Stephanie, Kimberly, Samantha, Cynthia, Melanie, Antoinette,  Teresa, Nancy, Cecelia....the list could go on and on.

I love Felicia, Adele and Christine (or Christiane). Adele does get mentioned around the board a bit. Rebecca is nice too, but I don't like the nn Becky or Becca.
