Postpartum Depression

Are you seeing a mental health professional?

If so what kind? Are you seeing a psychiatrist, or marriage and family therapist or a LCSW? I have all three covered by my insurance and I am trying to figure out who would best handle PPD.

  • I see a psychiatrist for meds and a LCSW for therapy.

  • I will have my first appointment with a psychologist next week.  DH and I have also discussed seeing a marriage and family counselor together, but have no appointment made so far.

  • I would see the highest educated person you could.  If you need meds, that would be a psychiatrist.  If no meds, then a psychologist, who is a doctorate level.
  • I will be seeing a psychiatrist.

  • I see a counselor at the local community centre. I do need a little help with PPD and go there proudly, for me just sitting and blurting it all out without fear of judgment makes me feel heaps better. I know what causes my problems, i just need to whinge about it! Big Smile
  • I was seeing a psychiatrist and a LCSW for therapy. I had PPD with my first baby back in 2005, it was un diagnosed though. So I started seeing someone early in my second pregnancy cause I didn't want to go through that again. She put me on Zoloft and I started therapy once a week. I'm not 6 months PP and have had no depression issues. I did have to increase my dose about a week after DD was born though.

I would start with a psychiatrist if you can get in soon. I was very against being medicated at first, but it's the best thing I have done for myself.
