I have been reading all of the posts today about shower gifts and people not buying off the registry. We got a TON of clothes that I know she is never going to be able to wear before she outgrows them and even more blankets that weren't on the registry, but I've kept everything b/c I figured we'd probably use them now or later anyway. There is only one thing we got that is truly useless (glass figurine), but I have no idea where it came from. We got a travel swing that we didn't register for, but then I thought it was cute and probably useful...plus, we're going to see how she likes it before purchasing the $160 swing we want since she might end up hating to swing.
I'm just wondering if hanging on to these extra things that we didn't need...particularly all the clothes...is a dumb idea since we could get store credit to buy stuff we DO need. Although a lot of them are from Gap and Old Navy, so that wouldn't really help I guess other than having it as a backup for bigger clothes as she grows. What did you do?
Re: Anyone else not return a single shower gift so far?
I VOWED that I would return any and all blankets (minus the handmade ones, obviously) that we receive, because dear lord are we 'blanketed'. So, I got a gift from a dear friend in the mail. Some sleepers and a package of receiving blankets from Target.
She included the gift receipt, so DH and I took back the blankets this weekend. $2.14 is what we got back. Damn if that didn't feel a little ridiculous.
LOL...oh yeah, Target has been having some awesome sales lately.
I have returned what I know we don't need but that has not been a lot. Since we are Team Green we have not registered for - nor have we received - many clothes.
We have a "meet the baby" shower 6-8 weeks after baby is here, and I anticipate having to return a lot more gender specific clothing items then.
I just really don't like hanging on to stuff I know I won't use, or am pretty sure I won't use. I hate clutter!
I received mostly gift cards but a few people did purchase actual gifts and not a single thing was off my registry. I received a lot of boy blankets. I don't understand why they were all blue with footballs on them but I figured that blankets are blankets. I'll keep them at home and use them for play time or burp rags.
We did receive a Boppy vibrating chair. I didn't register for it but I kept it. I figured she may like it and if she doesn't then I will sell it on e-bay or donate it.
My MIL threw us a shower a couple of weeks ago and we got 1 gift off our registry. One of those formula dispensers to use if you are going out.
No one else bought anything from our registry and we (like others) only put the necessities on there.
My MIL even works at Target and didn't buy off the registry. I am thankful for the shower, but we registered for a reason. DH was ticked lol but it was his family, so he can be!
I haven't decided yet if I'll try to take anything back. Of course, we don't have gift receipts either. But, Walmart will take back anything!
I haven't had my showers yet but I'm already getting rid of something we received as a gift. My aunt in Germany gave us an outfit that's so girly, we just can't use it (red romper with a pink hearted bird stitched on it and a pink hearted shirt underneath). So I'm spending money to mail it to my mom to give to a friend of our's baby girl being born next month, LOL. It's an adorable outfit, just not suitable for a boy.
I'm one of those people who HATES having items laying around my house that I don't currenlty use or won't use for at least a few years if we even decide to have another kid and if it's a girl. Too many if's for me. I'd rather someone else get use out of it or get even $2 to put towards a pack of diapers:)
