I replied to a different post that had mentioned pets and it got me thinking.. I know I have a lot of them, nine to be exact, and I was just wondering what pets other women here on TheBump have.
So, what pets do you have? Also, at what age would your child ask for a pet and get yes as an answer?
Mine:
2 Ball Pythons
2 Ferrets
1 Iguana
1 Lizard
1 Dog (Pug)
1 Cat (Calico)
1 Scropion (Venom removed)
As for my child asking for a pet and getting yes as an answer, growing up this LO is bound to see mommy and daddy feeding the pets we already have, these are our pets and we'll be taking care of them. When the child sees the work that goes into caring for a pet and unserstands that it'd be his/her pet so they'd have to care for it (take it for walks, feed it, clean its cage, whatever) then I'd say yes as long as the child was old enough to do what needs to be done to care for whatever animal it is that they're wanting.
Re: NBR: Do you have any pets?
Two dogs
A yellow lab and a boxer. I love them!
We have two cats and one dog.
I haven't really thought about when my LO wants a pet. DH will have to be the one to say no, because if it were up to me, I'd already have a farm full of animals!
1 dog (Beagle). We will always have a dog in our house. Growing up I always had one and my current dog is MH's first dog.
We have two dogs: A yorkie/shih tzu mix (boy) and a full yorkie (girl).
As far as saying yes to my child? How can I say no?
No, really, I can see another dog or a cat maybe but that's it.
I used to have four turtles til my cousin came over and played with them in the backyard and got distracted with something else and never put them back. My uncle isn't allowed to house-sit anymore.
I have a Boston Terrier and we adore him! He's such a sweetie. Here's his pic, isn't he cute!?
DH and I are both animal lovers so when LO starts asking for a pet we will probably cave.

I would probably encourage LO to share in our pet raising responsibilities. Unless it is like a goldfish - something simple
My furbabies are below, Gizmo is the black cocker, and Oreo is the bordercollie mix
Seven cats and a tank full of cichlids. We love our kitties.
We want to get a Sheltie, but plan on waiting until our LO is 7 years or older, that way she can help with some of the dog responsibilities.
We have one dog, and it will stay that way until she passes away. I'm not convinced I would get another dog - I'm more a cat person, but my husband is "allergic" to cats.
We had a host of pets growing up, hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs and we were pretty responsible as far as cleaning etc. I'm sure we had to be reminded every once in a while, but who doesn't?
I don't know as far as my child asking for a pet, like I said, we're pretty much a one-pet house at the moment, so we'll need to see what time brings.
2 dogs (APBT and English Bulldog), 2 ferrets, 1 macaw (large parrot) and a tank full of fish.
LO will share the responsibilities of caring for the pets as he/she gets older. If LO wants their "own" pet it depends what type of animal.
We have 1 dog (german shep mix) and 3 cats (1 calico and 2 tabbies). We've already planned for a 2nd dog but we are actually going to hold off on another dog until LO is a few years or so. That way, he gets to experience raising a puppy.
Once our pets get old and pass on, we'll probably always end up having at least 1 dog and 1 cat. I think it's important for kids to grow up learning how to share their lives with animals and how to take care of them. Plus, I'm such an animal lover, I could never resist not having something...
We have a male, 6yo, 100 lb yellow lab named Buster. He's slobbery and thinks he's human and about 10 lbs, LOL.
We'll probably always have a dog. We're just dog people. As far as any other animals: cats are completely out because of DH's severe and my mild allergy. I'm not big on small animals, so Ethan would need to be old enough to completely care for the animal on his own...and if he didn't, it would find a new home.
So, what pets do you have? Also, at what age would your child ask for a pet and get yes as an answer?
We have 3 cats right now (girl - tabby/*** cat, & 2 boys - medium hair & Himalayan). We are hoping to get a dog in the next couple of years but at this point I would like to wait until LO is a old enough to enjoy / help with the dog too. DH would like to get one this summer but I am hoping he will change his mind once he sees how much work LO is. I would like to get used to having LO before bringing a dog into the picture. I really want one too - but with time
. I would say around 4 or 5 if LO asked for a pet we would seriously consider it at least.
We have 2 dogs. A rat terrier who will be 7 this year and a teacup chi who will be 5 this year.
When I was a year old my parents got a westie. I was never expected to take care of it, but I loved that dog and she slept in my room every night and was "my" dog.
My kids will have dogs growing up because I love them. If they want another kind of animal I'd have to think about it. I hate rodents...gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc. and cats and snakes and birds so they'd be pretty limited LOL. I wouldn't mind a lizard of some sort if they were old enough to clean the cage themselves (junior high maybe?)
I have a dog named Chloe Belle. She's my baby.
As for pets for the kids, the only one we will have is Chloe. I didnt get my first pet until last year when I was living on my own. I'm not a huge pet person. The only pet I can actually stand is some dogs. Like, Chloe.
