Re: question on stretch marks...

  • Stretch marks are either going to happen or they won't, no product will prevent them if you're destined to have them.  I do use a heavy lotion for itching though.

  • What works?  Good genes.  That's it.
  • It's all genetic; if your mom got them, it's likely that you will too and vice versa, unfortunately.  GL TTC-ing!
  • nothing can actually PREVENT stretchmarks....if you're going to get them you're going to get them. BUT if you keep your skin hydrated, it will stretch easier and you can then possibly reduce the severity of stretchmarks. Get a lotion with collagen and elastin in it.
  • I shower twice a day and use in- shower body lotion and then I use Burts Bees Wax Mama Bee Oil.  I use it everywhere!
  • NOTHING is going to prevent them. They are genetic so you will either get them or you won't. Lotion will only help with the itchiness.

    Good luck on TTC!

  • no cream or lotion works.  If someone says "well, I sed xyz and ever got any marks, so it worked for me" chances are they weren't going to get any in the first place.

    Its genetic.

  • Wish there was a magic lotion/oil that would prevent them, but sadly there isn't.  It's often just genetics.

I use cocoa butter religiously every day.  It helps as I never have the "belly itch" and keeps my skin soft.  I was able to avoid stretch marks until 35 weeks, but got a few on the underside of my belly  after that.  So bummed.  Fortunately its only a couple and below my belly button.

This is not necessarily true.  my mom didn't get any stretch marks at all and I have them...all from my dad's genes, I have his skin type, not my mom's.

I still moisturize everything like crazy, definitely helps with the itching!

  • FWIW, stretch marks just happen, not matter what you use or do. I asked my Dr. and she that if my mom had them ,chances are I would too. I have very light ones and have used everything from Palmers to Mama Bee Belly oil. Whatever it is, it is. It's par for the course and they don't bother me much. I just posted a picture of my bump blow, I'm not even that big and have them. It happens.

  • For what it's worth, stretch marks used to seem like the ONE reason why I would never want to have children.  Now that I have stretch marks, I'm just proud that it's a sign that little Josiah is growing well and healthy.  Pregnancy is so long for a reason: so that you can have time to cope with things as they come. :)
  • You'll either get them or you wont. You cant even predict wether you'll get them or not or how bad they'll be by looking at your immediate family memebers really. Nothing works on preventing them. There are creams and such out there that'll fade them better/easier but thats about it. Only thing I use a lotion that helps with itching. GL with TTC though Smile

  • my mom has them sooooo bad. i have 2-3 tiny ones on each of my sides. i use bio oil and vitamin E oil and rub it on my belly every morning and night. i have a feeling that my stretchies would've been a lot worse if i didn't do this since i found out i was pregnant. but who knows! if anything, it made my skin super soft lol.
  • Unfortunately, it's genetic. And by that I mean it's in YOUR genes. It doesn't matter if your mom did or didn't have them when she was pregnant. Remember, you are a combination of two sets of genes, and your genetic make-up is different than your parents.

So ... if you got stretch marks during puberty (or some other time in your life) you'll probably get them during pregnancy.

  • I slathered cocoa butter all over myself this whole pregnancy and was pretty smug about the fact that I didn't have any until 39w 3d.  Then POOF!!!  I have a whole bunch of them.  I literally woke up with them.  Soooo, if you're gonna get them, you're gonna get them!  My doula calls them "flames of creation" but to me, they're just plain old stretch marks!
