3rd Trimester

Embarrassing Question...peeing yourself

I have never *snissed* myself, but sometimes when I get up to go the bathroom, and I have been waiting a little too long maybe, it seems like I have pee'd myself a little. Embarrassed

The thing is, I didn't feel any pee coming out??  I'm always surprised because my underpants are wet, and it's like - wait what?

I guess I'm a little freaked out because I'm not totally sure if it's pee or if I'm leaking something.  However, I would be embarrassed to bring it up to my doctor and have her tell me I'm just peeing myself!  Is it normal to not be able to tell you are peeing yourself in pregnancy??

Re: Embarrassing Question...peeing yourself

  • It happens to me all the time. I have asked my docs to check multiple times just to make sure it's pee and not fluid. They said that LO can press on your bladder and make you leak urine without you noticing. So, I would mention it to your doc and don't feel embarrassed if it's just pee. It's a pregnancy thing and wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?

  • You just described every trip I've taken to the bathroom in the last two months. Panty liners are your friends.

    This

  • That's been happening to me for the past couple weeks, except after I go to the bathroom.  I always feel like I have a huge wet spot on my crotch that everyone can see.  I've tried to start wearing panty liners.

  • Happens to me alot. There have been many times when I would have never known I was peeing if it wasnt for the sound of it hitting the water in the toilet.
  • this is a daily occurrence for me.

    I agree with this 100%!

  • Thanks all!  I never realized that you could pee yourself without actually feeling it happen.  I am like 80% sure it is pee at this point, but I will probably ask my doctor about it anyway to be safe.

    Ah, the joys of pregnancy.

  • Mention it to your doc - I went to L&D to make sure mine was pee and not amneotic fluid.  VERY common.  Better to be embarrassed then put your LO in harms way.  Meanwhile, you can wear a poise pad - they are great and thin and unnoticable.

  • I was having that issue too... but I stepped up my Kegel excercises - I am talking like 150 a day and I do not have the issue anymore. To fit them in I just do 1/2 of them in the morning before I even get out of bed, and 1/2 of them as I am falling asleep at night.
  • I have that too.  I have snissed myself as well.  Sometimes if I have been sitting on the couch, then get up, the gravity change puts increased pressure on my bladder, and I leak.

Someone on here posted once, that after you relieve your bladder, lay down for 15-30 mins, then stand up.  If you feel a fluid leak, then it could be amniotic fluid (it collected while you were laying down and your bladder *should* be empty).  They also say it has a sweeter smell and you can tell the difference between it and urine.

  • Happens to me too.  I had an appointment with my OB on Monday.  Apparetnly, in the time between getting undressed and the Dr coming in, there was quite a bit of wetness on the table.  (I'm embarrased to say that it was enouhg to disintegrate the paper take covering.  Ick!)  The Dr asked if my water broke.  I kinda laughed and said I doubted it.  He checked since he was down there anyways...and it was pee.  LOL

  • If I have to go, and blow my nose or laugh too hard, I totally leak.  That did NOT happen when I was pregnant the first time.  I'm assuming it's urine since it wouldn't happen if I didn't already have to pee.

So gross.  And yet, so normal.
