I am almost 39 weeks pregnant, and I teach 2nd grade. My last day of work is supposed to be Friday. I woke up this morning at 2:50am and had contractions every 10 minutes for 3 hours. They weren't painful, just had lower back pain and slight cramping. I called L & D, and they said they would hate for me to come in and get sent home since 10 minutes is still too far apart. So, I called in sick, and went back to sleep and now my contractions are really far apart (30 minutes). AT my appointment on Monday I was 2-3 cm, 80% effaced, -2 station, but I was that same place one week ago as well. Would you start your leave a few days early, or does this sound like false labor?

I'd start leave a little early to rest, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. I've been dealing with pre-term labor since 32 weeks. (I was on bedrest and meds to keep the contractions down from 32-35 weeks.) I had/have contractions every 10 minutes for at least an hour or two a day and then they go away. They've gotten worse and are "painful enough" to go in for if they'd just pick up and get consistent. I was sure we were going to the hospital yesterday afternoon and then they were gone last night. They're back today but nothing as painful and more spread out. I didn't have this at all with my girls (or maybe just one or two really painful contractions but nothing time-able or consistent before I was in labor). It's driving me nuts going on 6 weeks of this on again, off again, but just how it is sometimes.
My point is you could have your baby in the next few hours/days or this could go on for weeks off and on. Really, it could go either way. But the rest is nice if you want/need it.
